Toyota seems to be caught in a lie with the gas pedal issue. I don't have a Toyota but our Honda has a similar issue, the throttle will get stuck under certain conditions. We took it to the dealer and they told us the same thing as Toyota told their customers, "the floor mat needs to be moved." If you slam the gas pedal to the floor in our CR-V, the linkage to the throttle body fails to return back to idle when you release your foot. This happened to me twice, one time I just reached down and pulled the pedal off the floor and it snapped back and another time I turned the key off. www.nytimes.com/2010/02/24/business/global/24toyota.html?hp

Just another case that the consumer doesn't really matter to any company that's big enough... not until they get caught that is. Thank God for whistle blowers and whistle blower protection laws.

My father-in-law has a Camry and last month hit the back of a bus at low speed. This is the second time it's happened and we started looking closer at his driving abilities (he's not in the best health at 78).
We're not sure what to think, I thought he might have been pushing both pedals at the same time when moving the car forward in slow traffic. I think the car is scaring him.

Fortunately I had my camera and caught my father-in-law's gas pedal incident on video.

Being a motor city girl I would never buy a Toyota or such and have always had the best of luck with my long history with GM cars. The current Toyota 8 million car recall just tickles me to no end.

Good point, I never had any problems with my American cars but the Honda suited us at the time.

We have both American and foreign cars, including a 2007 Camry. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet and will wait to be notified, but if you hear about me running off a cliff at 100MPH...

I heard Phyllis Diller in an NPR interview say "at my age I can't tell if it's 1 o'clock or if I'm going 100." A great line I thought.

I've owned one American car in my life (a Ford). It was a piece of shit. I've owned six Toyotas, and they were uniformly perfect for their entire lives. I know it's anecdotal, and it pains me to disrespect the American manufacturing sector that I work in, but my choice is clear: Toyota all the way.

Damn. Just another reason now for Mrs. Nola to say no when I suggest she perform a little oral while we are driving down the street. God forbid I rear end someone while she is in the act.
I don't think I will ever forget that scene from The World According to Garp.

I said it before and I will say it again I will never buy another American car.
Piece of shit GM Oldsmobile blew up at 38,000.(Oil changed every 3,000 miles religiously by the local GM dealer) Dodge P/U rear end went out at 60,000 miles, front 4 wheel drive went out at 70,000 miles. I currently am driving a Chevy P/U with 41,000 so lets see what happens. Next one will be a Tundra.
I am with Jake, Toyota/Lexus all the way.

I think most of us are old enough to remember the exploding Pintos? They all have their bad spells. It's the nature of the manufacturing bizz.

That would be a most difficult act even while not driving, if you try it, do send a trip report.I don't think I will ever forget that scene from The World According to Garp.

Joe Of course GM has has recalls from time to time throught their history.....but not 8 million of them at once. BTW, I've never had a recall in any of my cars since 1971.

About 7 years ago when I owned a 2000 Chevy, I got a recall notice on that one. Also, back in the mid-90's I owned a Jeep Wrangler and got a recall on that, too. I have long since forgotten what the issues were on either.

What is an "American car" these days? My Ford truck has a Nippondenso compressor and a Mazda transmission. My Toyota Camry was built in Kentucky. The Toyota Trundra is built in San Antonio. I see Korean built Fords all over Saigon.
