Union Square Wines & Spirits held the first of its St-Germain sessions for this year. Rather than blather on about the stuff (which I've apparently done a wee too much), I'll just post the recipe card they handed out at the tasting so you can see the various cocktails they served. If you have any questions or want to discuss it, let me know. If not, well then, there you go. Attachments:

Some interesting cocktails there. Im printing off the recipes to give them a try, but it looks like I may have to do some shopping and/or judicious substitutions, hopefully not to the detriment of the final product.

One thing that was interesting -- the two bartenders that used Absinthe in their cocktails didn't pour it in: instead, they used some kind of perfume - like little sprayer to shoot a sprtiz or two into the glass before straining in the drink. Jason (who recently appeared on "Bartender Wars" on FLN, The Fine Living Network), told me you could buy them on Amazon. This somewhat resembles what they were using.

The St-Germain is excellent and I will try one of the new cocktails (I haven't decided yet which) but the ingredients are beyond the limitations of the average home bar (mine at least) so will entail some shopping. I will credit you Beeb, the SG is well beyond just another fad liqueur.

I've found that the folks who are into it are a very loyal group -- they also return to these tastings and bring friends who've never tried it before to turn them onto the stuff.

Lotsa folks were saying something like that last night (or a variation on that theme). Never quite did get a good explanation of exactly why he named the drink as he did, though ... generally, Jason has a habit of naming his cocktails after celebrities of varying stature, as you may recall from some of his past recipes.

Here's the rest of the tasting menu -- the big surprise and great new find of the evening was from Jason's Rachel Maddow ... the Ransom Old Tom Gin was *outrageous*! It's a very unique gin in the sense that it's got a distinctly brown hue -- obviously, quite unusual for a gin. The reason for this is due to the fact that it's aged in old whiskey barrels -- this not only gives it the look of a whiskey, but also, the nose and taste, as well. If you're a whiskey enthusiast as am I, this gin is most definitely a must try! Attachments:

My wife's oldest friend from Vietnam is here for a week and the neighbors invited us over for cocktails last evening. I had some fresh squeezed orange juice and decided to mix up a batch of Franche or however you spell Beeb's recipe from this thread. I took a pitcher of the drink to the neighbor's place. Phuong inhaled one drink on an empty stomach and had a second. She is tiny and drinks very rarely. By the time we got home, she was so drunk she had she had to go to bed.

I suspect "Mission Accomplished" happened *after* they got her into bed.
