I will probably use them in the next month or two to book my flights for my next NYE Hedo trip. I'm thinking of trying something other than Air Jamaica because they really screwed me this past year by drastically ch-ch-changing their outgoing schedule.
I used to take Flt. 10 from JFK, which always took off at 8AM. A couple of months after I booked, they changed the flight to 12:45PM and because of weather delays last monthy, it wound up being 45 min. late -- I didn't check in at Hedo until 8PM, the latest ever for me!

I use places like Kayak and Travelocity to get the best price out there at the moment, but I always books directly with the airline or hotel that I will use. Several times I have found better flight times and cheaper rates when I go to the airline directly.

I tried them tonight for our March Jamaica tickets and found cheaper at Continental Airlines site ($526.58 PP, RT for NS from IAH to MBJ and return, inclusive of all taxes).

I agree that you might find a better price by purchasing directly from an airline's own site, but I find kayak useful as a point of reference if nothing else, simply because it consolidates a bunch of travel - related Web sites so you don't have to visit & search each one individually.

The site probably does help you to establish what the market is and what approximates a good deal.

I just learned a new trick: Booked flights on Spirit Airlines to Fort Lauderdale for a FILP trip. After selecting the flights, it took me to a page to select a seat. Each seat had a PRICE TAG on it! To select a seat, you had to pay anywhere from $8 to $20 extra! I declined. Let them assign me one at the gate for free........Jake

For a short flight, that's fine -- but if it's a long flight, I might want to consider paying up.

When you visit the Kayak site a new tab opens up for Priceline.com. What's the connection?

Before you click search, you have the option in the lower box to 'compare sites in new window'. If you don't want any other windows popping up, unclick all of them.

Thanks Gary, I couldn't figure it out and for a moment thought the 2 companies were related.

Just checked prices for November through Kayak and it reported a Continental flight from JFK as:
2 Adults (age 18 to 64) $656.00 Additional Taxes/Fees $198.16 Total Price $854.16
$854.16 Card Statement Credit -$50.00 Learn More Learn More $804.16
When I went through Continental.com directly for the same flight it was more than twice the money, strange.
2 Adults (age 18 to 64) $2,056.00 Additional Taxes/Fees $198.16 Total Price $2,254.16
$2,254.16 Card Statement Credit -$50.00 Learn More Learn More $2,204.16
If I'm looking at airfare now do you think I need a vacation?
