As unpleasant as the weather may be in January, it can nevertheless wind up being one of the most fun months -- especially if you're an NFL fan, IMO. This weekend -- even more than Super Bowl weekend -- may be the best of the bunch because it's Wild-card Weekend and we have 4 playoff games to look forward to.
In NY, I was shocked when the Giants missed the playoffs and the Jets made it -- in fact, I'm a little disappointed that the Jets made it because I think it gives the organization a false sense of security that they will think they are better than the really are. After all, it was just a couple of weeks ago when Head Coach Rex Ryan threw in the towel on the season, then had to do an about face when they wound up in the post - season.
I was shocked when they kept the Colts from a perfect season and surprised when they handily beat Cincy -- but then, the Bengals weren't playing at full force; with all players in the lineup tomorrow, I think it will be a different story and expect Ochocinco to be the big difference in the game. Jets will lose this one by (minimally) 3 touchdowns *and* get shutout in the process.
Other than that, I have no predictions -- I'm just looking forward to playoff games that are fun, exciting and competitive, even if they're flawed in some way.
Anyone else have any predictions?
Do you also get excited by NFL playoff games even if your team isn't in it?
And how fucked up is it that the Super Bowl is so late this year because the Pro Bowl is being played the week *before*? I've gotta believe the league will instruct the coaches to hold back from playing players that are supposed to be in the big game the following week.

I've always enjoyed late and play-off season and sometimes find the Superbowl to be somewhat anticlimactic. The intensity of play this weekend will be a whole notch higher.
I'm getting a bottle of V.C. and making up an antipasto for the event.
Football, Champagne and prosciutto are inseparable!

Even though my Rams missed the playoff by *this* much, I've enjoyed the season by rooting for the Eagles. I have no connection to Philadelphia in any way, but I closely follow their first round draft pick, WR Jeremy Maclin #18.
Jeremy and my son went to the same High School and played both baseball and football together. When David pitched, he could count on Jeremy to track down any fly ball hit just about anywhere in the outfield. Really helped my kid's ERA! Had he concentrated on baseball, I have no doubt he'd have been drafted by MLB.
David was an O-Lineman blocking ahead of Jeremy. The best he could hope to do was try to stay out of Jeremy's way lest he be run over -- the kid was fast!
After High School, they both chose Mizzou. Though they started traveling in different circles, they both keep in touch.

Well, I certainly didn't call *that* one very well, did I? Good thing I don't bet money on these games!
Sadly, it looks like the Jets have another game to play. I was sure Dhani Jones would stuff their running game, but he turned out to be something of a non - factor. Jets got lucky with things such as those 2 early lost Challenges by Cincy and those blown field goal attempts by Graham (25 and 35 yds? C'mon! Ya gotta make those!)
They'll be lucky if their helmets still fit next week after all the swelled heads they'll have after this one ...

Watched most of both games today and so far they are the best I have seen this season. I have kind of lost interest in the NFL regular season the last couple of years. The playoff bring my enthusiasm back again. No real favorite here for me. Maybe the Saint or the Colts.
I still can't wait for the start of the MLB in April. Looks like I will get to the see the Mariner play this year since it looks like we are headed to Seattle in July.

I thought Cincy was going to clean house with them, but the Jets stayed in control the whole game. They stand a chance of making someones life miserable next weekend for the first 3 quarters, but that about it. Joe

I agree and I will also add that if yesterday's game proved anything, it's that the Jets' "Wildcat Offense" lineup ain't foolin' nobody!

It was good. The first game that I watched the whole game this season. I thought the Arizona place kicker felt bad after missing that field goal attempt, but I bet Rodgers is going to have nightmare for the next month about that fumble in OT.
Arizona could be playing spoiler again on their way to a repeat Super Bowl appearance.

I believe they said on TV that was a record for most points scored in a playoff game -- gotta think the network was wishing a game like that had been in prime time.

I would like to see a Super Bowl game played just like that Packer-Cardinals game yesterday.
