When winter gets really dreary and gray around here, I like to walk over to the Lincoln Park Conservatory. This is basically a huge greenhouse full of exotic plants maintained by the Park District. As soon as you step inside, you feel like you've been transported to a jungle planet! Here is the view as you approach the building (as you can see, it is decked out for Christmas): Right inside the door is a pond full of goldfish. You can't see the fish here, but you can see that the little statue is in the holiday spirit: Here are a few photos of the plants that struck me as particularly photogenic. This first one reminded me of helicopter blades: This fern was towering up near to the ceiling. It looks from this photo as if it was outside, but it isn't: There were lots of orchids: As part of the Christmas display, they had a model train running through a field of poinsettias: This plant is called "Fireworks," and you can see why: Poinsettias in a variety of colors: I liked this dense field of foliage stretching out into the distance: I also liked the "pinwheel" look to these plants: This was called a "Swiss cheese plant" or something like that: And these were reminiscent of alligator skin: That's about it for now. I only had my point-and-shoot with me, so most of my shots came out blurry from low light, or blasted out by the flash. I'll have to go back with my SLR and get some real photos. Soon come, mon!......Jake

Lovely pictures Jake. We're having an usually cold and snowy (by UK standards) winter here, so it's nice to see some greenery. This was called a "Swiss cheese plant" or something like that: I used to have a 6ft tall cheese plant in my sitting room. Sadly my ex wife got sole custody of it in our divorce. Simon
