Dee Dee,
I hide in Adelaide in South Australia
Which bits did you get to?
Ozmale
Ahh, Australia...roughly the size of the USA with a population slightly less than 2/3s of Canada! Means we have a lot of empty space
Hey - that was my 50th post!!!

We spent 5 days in Sydney, 5 days outside of Cairnes(?) and 5 days in Melbourne. Best trip we've ever had! The flight to and fro was a bitch! Kinda funny, we left Little Rock at 4am mid August. It was around 90 degrees-Saturday morning and landed in Sydney on Sunday evening to rain and 50 degrees. Took five or six suitcases because of all the variety of clothes. Sydney was awesome!! Did the usual tourist things....Sydney bridge climb, the botanical gardens, harbor cruise....Lots of shopping. The people were very friendly. Never got to Bondi Beach, though. Wish we would have. Ate lots of great food, too. Oh and the opera house... Had a package deal and the agent Bill talked to...kinda dissapointed...the night before we left for Cairnes, Bill's brother(who also went with wife and daughter) called our room to inform us that our hotel in Cairnes was actually on the mud flats and we would have to drive out of town to get to the beach. The agent should have told Bill this since she knew how we feel about an 'ocean front hotel'. Yeah right! Well we lost our money on the first night at that hotle beacause we found a charming village called.....(get the memory glands going) Palm Cove(?)-the hotel was (pardon the spelling) Sebal Reef House. AB-SO-LUTE-LY FABULOUS!!! I can't even describe how wonderful the room---actually more like a villa was. Plus every night at dinner, the moon was shining on the water....gorgeous!! Dove the reef only one day....I had a little 'constriction' problem with my wet suit....never had worn one before and it was too tight. Almost had a panic attack. But the water was beautifull!
We should have done Melbourne before the Reef....it kinda paled in comparison. To be honest we didn't do just a whole lot in Melbourne, but did walk the city every day. I think we were all getting on each others nerves and home sick. Oh, in Melbourne, did discover the wonders of go-carts without govenors on them!! Did that two different times......Bill and his brother both came home with cracked ribs---not from wrecking, but cornering. Plus Bill had a pinched nerve. I love that man, but he was a real bitch on the plane trip home. I think he was jealous that John and I could curl up in a ball in the seat. Talked about going to Aires Rock(?), but when we looked at the map, we realized it was equivalent to a plane trip from...Las Vegas to New York....pretty much. Next trip will probably just be Bill and I...I really want to see the outback this time! It amazed me that most of the population is either on the Eastern-Southeastern side or Southwestern area.......Hey mate....it's all beautiful! Two thumbs up! DeeDee

Dee Dee, I hide in Adelaide in South Australia I have an uncle and 3 cousins in Adelaide. They moved there in 1980 and love the lifestyle they enjoy in Australia. We plan to get out there to see them one day when we are in a position to take more than just two weeks off work, we've always said when we go we would want to make it a 6 week trip and see as much as we can of your country while we are there. Simon, that is what we also talked about. Two weeks was nice, but when we retire, we're doing it for about a month. Ozmale....isn't Bondi Beach clothing optional? DeeDee Just did a little surfing and found out that at Bondi you can....'surf' nude!!! Even saw a picture of a guy mountain climbing nude....ouch.

Even saw a picture of a guy mountain climbing nude....ouch. We mtn climb/hike nude a lot....it's (almost) always Naked Hiking Day here in VT! Now if you're talking about rock climbing....that would definitely be more of an 'ouch' factor. Although I had a friend who routinely rock climbed barefoot....tho he did keep his shorts on. Hiking barefoot can be nice as well....just depends on how tough your feet are. Same with Hedo!! I never wear shoes there. And for all the naggers about stepping on glass with barefeet.....barefooters are generally pretty aware of where they are walking.

Oz....I had talked to you on the other "bored" about going down under last February. Did you make it to Germany? We went to Perth for 2 weeks. Rick has a friend there, so accommodations were truly the best. We spent a few days down in Margaret River wine tasting. We stayed at Bunker Bay Resort, which was truly outstanding. I've got to go back and do that again. We did manage to come back to the US with 30 bottles of outstanding wine. We also went to Swanbourne Beach, which is in Perth. It is a nude beach on the Aussie Special Forces base, right below the firing range tower. No, they weren't firing. Anyway, we had the most awesome time. To see a pic of us at Wise Winery, which is the only winery where you can see the Indian Ocean click here Ok, there's also a Hedo pic there too and a couple of roos having a Hedo moment. Sorry for the location, but hey....let DaddyP host the pics. Hugs~ Cher

Dee Dee: Cairns / Palm Cove and in-fact anywhere along the coast in FNQ (far north Queensland) is great. Melbourne...well the restaurants are good (got to get out into country Victoria to see the best in that state I think). If your are considering the Outback and Alice allow at least a week in Alice if you want to see it all properly (and don't mind doing a bit of hiking). The Rock (Ayres Rock or as it is now called Uluru) allow 2 or 3 days. And people often miss Kings Canyon. It can all be done on a 3 - 4 day tour but you miss sooooo much. Last time I was in the Alice I spent 7 days there and still missed stuff! If you want to really see the outback and are game to do some driving (and driving where you will only see a few other cars in the day) let me know and I'll give u a few ideas. No nude beaches in the outback but then in a lot of it nobody is likely to see you anyway and probably wouldn't care if they did! Did go nude at some hot springs in the desert once. Not officially nude but if there's no-one else around you can even have your own mini Hedo!!! Most of our population hugs the east coast. then there's about 1.5 million around where I am and another 2 million over in the south west. The rest is pretty much empty! (Well not quite) BTW: Be careful. Bondi is not clothing optional (topless maybe and Wicked Weasel bottoms) but not CO. The beach is in the heart of Sydney and very easy to get to. Think of the perve count if it was a nude beach. The nude surfing was some kind of special event I think. NSW does have city area (but involving a bit of a walk to get to) and country nude beaches and one or two country nude resorts. There is also a nude hotel/b&b in Sydney. Queensland has one or two excellent nude accommodation places (by reputation, never been there). I actually don't know any Aussie nudists......even tho there is a nude beach about 15 minutes south of where I work. That one was the first legal nude beach in Australia. FYI: www.wilmap.com.au/alice_springs/camap.htmlSimon: Relatives in Adelaide....Its a small world isn't it? How about the 3rd test...A draw. These yanks don't know what they are missing! Cher: Yes made it to Germany. Did my work stuff and headed down to the mountains south of Munich for the weekend. Found a lovely little spot at a place called Spritzingzee (spelling?). Good hiking, good food and a German style nude sauna and spa in the hotel. Nice short break. Glad you liked Perth. Didn't get time to check out Swanbourne last time I was there...come to think - it was the middle of winter anyway! Damn, thats too much typing Ozmale

Simon: Relatives in Adelaide....Its a small world isn't it? Yes, a very small world!! There's a nude beach in Adelaide isn't there? I'm sure I remember my uncle mentioning it last time he was over here. What an exciting cricket match!! I was on the edge of my seat last night when Harmison was bowling the last few balls!! Simon

even tho there is a nude beach about 15 minutes south of where I work. Yep Simon sure is. Its called Maslins Beach and its quite a nice bit of beach. TO get there you either walk along the beach from the prude area (grin) or take the path down from the cliff top car park Here's a pic for you (not mine - just found it on the web) www.geocities.com/aquaspice2002/images/maslin_1.jpgNude beach is at the far end away from the camera. Its also an older pic I think (judging by the cars and some of the background) Now as an added bonus, Maslins is only a 5 to 10 minute drive from the Southern Vales Wine region home of some of South Australia's best wines and some bloody good restaurants, some great B & B's, a motel with 2 person showers and spas and a developing slow food industry. Thank you Ozmale... Soooo much to see there!! It was Bill's dream vacation especially to dive the Reef...to bad I screwed it up and only dove once.... Not to say it wasn't my dream vacation too, but sometimes Bill thinks a little more broad than I.
Guys, I am dead serious....I have NEVER been in a city the size of Sydney or Melbourne and seen such polite drivers. We only heard a car horn once....and that was so our cabbie could let the guy next to us over! We came home and drove friendly for about a year....then I turned back into that 40% bitch that I am ;D I'm trying to remember the time difference....can't right night, but it safe to say, have a good evening(?), Ozmale ;D DD
