A museum is now open at the Gunnison Beach entrance -- located in the beach dunes. It's a tribute to the turn of the 19th century armaments or as the proud young military curator put it "2000 lbs each of American foreign policy". Here is some of the weaponry that protected the east coast. Look at the horizon and you can see the beaches of New York's Long Island. It was a very clear day.

Inside the bunker, a manually operated elevator was used to bring the 2000lb projectiles to the surface gun stations. A picture looking up the shaft.

Here's another angle. I couldn't stitch these pictures together and come out with a reasonable result, so I hoped this grouping made them look casually placed in the sand. Notice in the back ground another gun barrel sticking out of the bush.
