My wife was taking a class in Dallas this last weekend and asked that I accompany her. Saturday night we took my sons and one girlfriend out to dinner but I had some time to kill during the day. I went by West Marine and bought a couple of gallons of marine epoxy (to avoid the hazardous materials shipping charge) and took care of a few other shopping errands that are easier done in Dallas than here.
Yesterday was the last day of the King Tut exhibit in Dallas and I had procrastinated for months and had to stand in big lines etc. which I am loathe to do. The exhibit was excellent although it was minus a gold mask that one might expect to see at a King Tut exhibit. The Egyptians said that the mask was too fragile to travel, but I suspect that they might want to hold back a little to encourage travelers to come to Egypt. Can't blame them. I am amazed by antiquities of this age. Here are sophisticated craftworks of very rare materials, many in pretty much the same condition as they were 3300 years ago. The items were probably in pretty much the condition and exact position when they were found in 1922 as they were when the Greeks fought at Marathon, Jesus walked the earth and Columbus sailed. Amazing enough for me.
I had a couple of hours to kill between ticket purchase and admission so I did something new and rode the Dallas light rail system. I was quite impressed. The system is part subway, part elevated train, and part ground level railway. It was clean, on time, fast, and comfortable. The system is building three more major lines. The system is very automated and the only employee that I saw was the train operator.
The weekend was interesting enough.
