Thanks for the post Si!
I bet Allen is in for the long haul. The lyrics are clever and as a pop artist she seems ahead of all the others. Lily Allen doesn't get much air play here on the northern east coast except for the cutting edge indie station I listen to (wfuv Fordam University).
Her lyrical style reminds me a little of Kirstie McColl's.
David Byrne is playing at Radio City Music Hall at the end of February and I might jump on the chance to see him.

You know, when Lily first appeared a couple of years ago I thought she was a novelty act... a one hit wonder. Her faux working class/cockney accent seemed so contrived, but to give the girl her due she's shown she has longevity. And I actually really like this single.

Last night I thought of you while watching the Grammy Awards.
When I saw the popularity of Cold Play in general and Viva La Vida specifically, I laughed to myself thinking that this must be the current British national anthem.
....but Cold Play is a great band.

Ha! That Allen is too much! I think she has a great style and her off beat angle gives her a special niche. She's not played here in lower N.Y. except for the fantastic university station I listen to. (wfuv) www.wfuv.org/audio/stream.htmlFollowing her career will be fun, we need more unique singers and lyricist.

OK, What do Lily Allen and Prince Charles have in common?? (Apologies for poor video quality, if I find a better on, I will replace)

You can include Bond villain Francisco Scaramanga and Crusty the Clown in that list. And not forgetting Chandler Bing's 'nubbin'

Did I hear her correctly? She said "1 in 10 have them" (a third nipple). I only see even sets in my travels.

Gary I set my crack staff on crack into research mode and came up with the following ... and if you are really "into" them, I suppose we should add supernumerarymammaryism to our dictionaries. I found another (this time documented) source that states 1%-5% of people have them... but (and this is too good to be made up) you have to be thorough WHERE you look... beware the dreaded nip-foot.. Link to Dermatology Online Journal And now I understand foot fetishes better

And all along I thought Mr. Scaramanga was unique and now I learn he's practically you're average Joe (all be it a touch cranky and very dangerous).

Gary, here's Lily's latest single over here for ya. The lyrics are great... listen carefully : Simon This has been my favourite Lily Allen single to date but it only made it as high as number five in our singles charts. Such I shame, I thought it had the makings of a number one. Simon

Unfortunately it would seem that the British single buying public currently prefer the partially dressed Lady Gaga to our own wholesome Ms Allen.

I'm barely familiar with Gaga, sometimes I'm very out of the loop when it comes to current mainstream popular music.

I quite like Gaga, but she seems to go out of her way to make a complete arse of herself whenever she is over here. About a month ago she did one of our big talk shows but just gave short disinterested answers to the questions. She obviously thought she was being cool but she just looked like a fool... someone needs to tell her that punk bands were doing that over 30 years ago :
Clip is **NSFW**

She was covering Britney Spear's Womaniser. I'm sure someone else will upload it... I'll post a link when I see it. I'm not a festival kind of person... I like my home comforts too much, and the thought of camping with nearly 200,000 other people and all sharing the same three porta-loos fills me with horror. But this year watching Glastonbury - which is the largest music festival in the world en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Festival - on the TV over the weekend I really wished I had been there. There were around 700 acts performing over three days, with Bruce Springsteen andNeil Young headlining Friday and Saturday nights, and Blur reforming to headline on Sunday. I'm not sure how popular Blur are in the US, although I know that their 'Song 2' is often played at sports events, but they were huge here in the nineties. Three of the band, Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Dave Rowntree come from my home town, so everyone in this area seems to have a dubious claim to have known them. Mine is that my mother is good friend's with Damon's mother, my business partner's is that Damon's dad was one of his graphic design lecturers at college. I'd love to have been at Glastonbury to see them. Simon
