Well, today I put new flags and pennants on the flag poles that had hung the Christmas holiday flags, and rehung them on the back of the house and along the drive. One of them is a favorite of mine - the flag of the Conch Republic.
Each season and each holiday is a time for redecorating of the house (and my wife has many, many things that get changed out, and her sister comes over to conference on the way the hearth and above the hearth looks).
Tonight, after American Idol finished, my wife checked the home and garden channel and the food channel, and decided there was nothing that called her name tonight, so she handed the remote to me - the man of the house, you know.
And so I did the manly thing. I went to movies I had recorded earlier, and picked one that we had started watching one night, but didn't see all of it.
I chose Christmas with the Kranks. As I laughed and laughed, and chortled, I got to thinking. And so I said, you know this guy is the men's ideal man. Why do we do all this stuff at Christmas? Surely it's not REALLY the "spirit" of Christmas, you know?
She looked at me pityingly, and said, "Women decided it."
I shook my head sadly, "I know."
