Last night I watched a new show on Showtime called United States of Tara. It stars Toni Collette as an overworked, stressed-out house wife. Her husband is played by John Corbett. She has multiple personalities and at any given time, another personality presents itself to the family. One of her personalities is a 15 year old skank. The show is hilarious. Toni Collette's performance is pure genius. I give it a thumbs up. LOL. Showtime has the best shows.

However, last night was Big Love night in the Nola house. I tend to go with the known product over the unknown for the first go round at least. But I am set for United States tonight. But not until 24 is over.

After the rave review I gave it, I hope you like it. Have you seen Secret Diaries of a Call Girl? Another great Showtime show. The lead actress is a knock out, according to hubby.

I tried but had a disconnect with Call Girl. I think it was Billie Piper's accent that really threw me off. I could never get past it.

I almost bailed after the first ten minutes. It just wasn't clicking for me but I hung around. I am glad I stayed for the second half. I laughed my ass off when Buck appeared. I am willing to give it a few more episodes to see where it goes. It seems to be worth it. Showtime does put out some interesting shows. I am totally hooked on Californication. I think Lew Ashby this season was one of my all time favorite TV characters.

How about Weeds? I can't seen to get into Californication or Dexter. On HBO, I love Curb your Enthusiasm. Larry David is just insanely funny.

I will still watch Weeds but I do think it jumped the shark about 2 seasons ago. And I really miss the old intro and music. I realize Curb Your Enthusiasm is an acquired taste for many but I think it is pure genius. Susie Greene is in my top 5 TV characters of all time. Susie Greene is played by Susie Essman. I was reading where Ms. Essman lives in a condo in New York. And her door man refuses to give her the mail unless she dresses him down with a "Fuck you, you fat fuck." I would love to have that as a ring tone for my phone.

I also miss the opening song, Little Boxes. I also miss the cast from the first season. I don't think this past season was as good as previous ones. Yes, Curb is definitely an acquired taste and not for everyone. I watched Suzie Essman on a comedy special and surprisingly, she wasn't funny. I was disappointed.

Denice and I watch the US of Tara last night. Not bad. The first 10 minutes I was not impressed but it grew on me. We got to watch two episodes back to back so by the end of the second it's pretty good. Buck was a kick in the ass.
With Californication done for the year and having to wait for Weeds this summer it makes a good fill in.
Also there is another Showtime series called "The Tudors" that we like. It should start again in March.

This sounds like a show I would like. I enjoy Toni Collette (and she is an Aussie) but no go yet. Luckily they do show Californication here, but it comes on regular tv so late I missed this last season. Really enjoyed the first, so maybe I'll rent it and catch up that way.
I do however, miss Weeds, but hate to think that the intro song has changed. I loved it.
Back in the US, we had cable with all the movie channels, maybe 200-300 channels with the DVR as my best little buddy. Here we have elected to stay with the free to air only (Woo Hoo-no cable bill) channels, but still get a decent range of programs. They show Dexter too, but his character just isn't likable to me (and it isn't cause he is a serial killer)

Sorry to have to say this, but the original theme song, Little Boxes is gone. I don't remember what it was replaced with. Toni Collette and Hugh Laurie are brilliant at hiding their accents. For the longest time, I didn't know that Toni Collette was Australian. Meryl Streep is amazing at doing accents.

Last night, I finally got to watch Tara on one of Showtime's replays. I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did, especially when I saw Diablo Cody's name in the credits; she was listed as an Executive Producer and the writer of that particular episode. Cody wrote the screenplay for Juno (for which I *think* she won an Oscar last year) and was also the author of Candy Girl. She's one of David Letterman's favorite guests and has had some memorable interviews with her; I think some may be posted on YouTube, but I haven't checked lately.

We just watched the third episode of US of Tara on Showtime. This is going to be a great series. We are now hooked. I am glad that's it's on cable because it would never make it on regular TV.
