You guys might have saw me link this before but this is my winter stomping ground. Hopefully we'll get back up there in a few weekends. The hot-tub feels extra toasty in these temps. www.oldforge.net/webcam1.htmlWhere's that hot wife of yours? I can't quite see her . . .

It's -13 degrees here right now. NOT the wind chill, the air temp.
A friend of Hazel's from San Francisco is coming to visit tomorrow. I hope she brought some warm clothes!.....Jake

Bob,
That's very nice of you to refer to her that way, of course she would be flattered.

Yes it is and they rarely plow the roads, they add sand but mostly you drive on the snow. (it snows constantly)
The cars are nearly silent from the insulating effect of the snow except for the squeeking of the tires in the cold dry snow.

Worst cold I was ever in was in Madison WI in the winter of 79-80. We had moved into a brand new quadplex aptartment, first tenents in fact. One weekend in February the temps hit -30 and the wind chill was in the -60 range. We tacked up blankets over the outside door because yo could feel the cold coming off of them 3-4 feet away, and ALL of the electrical switch and outlets on exterior walls had FROST on the little screws that hold the face plate to the box.
We had to physically force the dog to go outside to do her business (we went with her so we knew she was done and not out a second longer than necessary), she did what she needed to then RAN back to the with us following as fast as we could

It was so cold once I put a jacket on and went out to the car. Then I started to have second thoughts, so I went back in and put a sweatshirt on too just in case. Hopefully we won't be having weather like that too often!!

Can you imagine peeing outside in that temperature. I'd bet it's dangerous, maybe shrinkage is an emergency fail safe given how hard it is to find through 4 layers of insulated underwear and winter gear.

It was my first month in Chicago (from Detroit). I was one of the first 50 tenants in a brand new 56 story high rise (Huron Plaza) a few blocks from WaterTower Place. It was an all electric building. I had a corner unit with 6' windows wrapped around my unit. I didn't have window coverings yet and sat bundled on my couch for a week notwithstanding have both heating units on full blast. The sprinkler system in the garage broke and my new company car was frozen under 4 or 5 inches of ice until almost late February. In fact I was just talking about that winter last night telling Art how I think this is comparable to it. Damn it's cold here!

We lucked out. It did go down to 24 last night but thats a far cry from the 16 that was predicted and we have blue skies, not a cloud in sight. The winds are slight, so again, we lucked up.
Tonight the weather guessers are saying it's going down to 14 and the high for Saturday will be 40, we'll see.

Jan 1980? Ah yes, one of the best weeks of my life! Half of us had made it to our dorm (in the northern cornfields of Illinois) and then the campus promptly closed for a week.
Heat was high and so were we...party party party with no classes and all our buddies around (some of legal age to buy our hooch)...fabulous time! We'd run out into the 6-foot drifts and crawl around like fools freezing our butts off happily. No harm, no foul.

I recall similar winter storm fun back then. One time about 5 couples were stuck in a house with no parents. It was a record setting snow storm (1982). We walked outside, drank brandy and watched a little porn. Desiree Cousteau was the star. I was happy to see any naked women, as I am now. Some things never ch-ch-change. Got brandy?

Over the holidays we had B&B with dessert. I only had it once a long time ago but I thought it tasted good. We also had Grand Marnier and Courvoisier which could double as an alternative fuel.

You know Gary I would be very careful how you put the letter "B" together here even with a "&" between them. ;D ;D Joe

DC is FREEZING!! We've had single digits in the PM with wind chill factors and yesterday during the day it was SO cold - we went to Circuit City (to cash in on their going out of business sale - not that great yet) and by the time we got to the door of the place my hands were frozen!
It hasn't been this cold in this area in 20 years (according to our weather forecasters).
Mr. Obama is going to freeze his tushie off when he is sworn in! (along with everyone else who is going into DC to see it - I'm watching in the comfort of my home in front of the new big screen). ;D

You know...I think it WAS January of 1980 when we had a big storm down here. Mom and Dad left for Aruba around 5am Sunday morning. My oldest brother had moved back home and my other brother and I were still school age. He was a senior and I was in 9th grade. Anyhoo, they left on their trip and it started snowing....and snowing...and snowing untill we had 10-12 inches. That's a blizzard down here! We were out of school all week...hehehe. I think if mom and dad knew about that they would have come back...if I had kids like us, I would have come back! Should add at this point that one of my brothers is crazy like Gary Busey and the other is like Chris Farley... Clinton was govenor and damned near broke the state bringing in plows, sand trucks and workers....I think we only have ONE sand truck anyway...
