I have a bit of a report.
We had a great time - there were many less people there but it was a good group! Lots of the usual fun.
The beach grill food was definitely MUCH to be desired. We found the prude grill to be much better. The same lady from last year was running it. Also, food in dining room had many less choices. We did find something to eat though. The salad bar could have had more options. Charlie's omelet's continue to be a good option on the days he works - we find this keeps us satisfied until at least jerk chicken time. There was no jerk chicken sauce on Monday (the day before we left). There was also no lobster night last Friday - I wonder if they will have it tonight since Denny is there. We did notice that the food seemed to pick up once Denny arrived - I don't know if this is in part due to the size of the party coming in or to Denny being there himself. Maybe a bit of both.
The rooms are about the same - AC is working great - too good - Randy actually turned an AC down - I've NEVER seen that before. I didn't come home or wake up one time with a stuffed up nose - yea!
The WWW Winter group was in good form. The mini skirt night was pretty hilarious - there was a competition and the person I thought should have won did not as he forfeited as the person who won was in almost full drag with makeup and everything. I won't get into specifics but my candidate was in school girl regalia with a very SHORT skirt. It was hilarious! There were others as well. A very nice full black leather number on an unexpected candidate was a close second to my #1 pick by the way. A lot of the outfits didn't last all night though as people started disappearing to ch-ch-change and come back. Sports night on Monday night was fun but not nearly as entertaining as the previous evening.
We did go down and feed the fishes - was funny, we arrived to be the only ones on the dock and within 15 minutes or less 6 people joined us. Randy found that chicken went over well with the fish too but it was messy.
The first few days we were there were really quiet - there was plenty of room on the beach (which filled up later but wasn't too bad all in all - I've seen it fuller) to find a seat at just about any time and the pool had a nice assortment of people.
While I had heard the Hedo III rumor, Randy heard from a reliable source that Hedo II was also going to close - I don't know if this is a mix up in communication or not (I suspect it was) but he heard it just the same - that SC has made a number of not very good investments and occupancy is down. I would think though if they close III that the occupancy at II will pick up.
Generally, we found that the "old timers" on the staff - the ones that are there every year seemed even MORE genuinely thrilled that we were there this year - I got big hugs from Charlie Murray (a bigger one that usual) and a number of the girls in the dining room who have been there a long time as well as very warmly welcomed back by the spa staff. I think they're hurting a bit. Hedo seems to be rotating the staff - they work so long on and then off for 2 - 3 weeks. I don't know if this is normal or not.
I had a nice chat with Joe (finally as I've been saying I wanted to chat with him for a while now) at the pool one day and we had a fun time playing bat the beach ball for a good while with about 5 others in the pool. Was a lot of fun and everyone was willing to go under to hit the ball.
I enjoyed my spa trips - Rosslyn as usual was there to treat me right and get all my muscles in working order for me. Thank goodness for the Hedonistic Delights too as Randy has finally decided that massages are a good thing and has embraced them with gusto this trip having more than I did! If anyone wants to bring a gift to Rosslyn, she really is into alternative medicine, glucosamine and Chondriotin, garlic, etc. I left her with a few bottles of ibuprofen and aleve too.
That's about all I can think of for now except we were not happy to come home so early (though it was better than no vacation at all).
