Thursday night was just a standard night until our son called fromn someone elses phone to tell us that he was just car jacked. He and another young man were leaving work-Mc Allisters Deli- when two young men walked up and put a gun in Johns face. They told him to 'drop you're shit'....which he did. When I went to pick him up I could tell that (naturally) the adreneline rush was in full swing. He said reflex kicked in and when he 'dropped his shit' he turned and 'ran like he's never run before'. He was incredibly lucky- or better yet blessed that he didn't get shot. What a gamble.....run and risk getting shot or stay and risk getting shot? Here is the salt in the wound.....this is the FIFTH robbery/theft that this location has had....and this location is NOT in a rough part of town. Apparently, they decided it would be a good idea to have security at night.......YA THINK? ?? He's fine, the car was found but we can't get it yet so we don't know if it's totalled......I don't care......my boy wasn't hurt....

Thankfully you son was not hurt. He did the right thing by dropping everything and letting them have the car.
After 5 robberies/thefts from that area you would also think the local police would have a little more presence in the area. Maybe a few more patrol cars.

Oh how scary. I am so glad to hear he's safe! I think he did the smartest thing by running. The longer you stay in the presence of that sort of person, the more time they have to be dangerous and stupid.

I don't think there is a more helpless feeling in the world than not being able to help one of your children during a major crisis. It is so good to hear everything turned out well.
I have always said (half jokingly but with a healthy dose of reality) that my primary goal in life was to raise and keep our 3 children alive till they turned 21. I figured at that point common sense and the maturation process would begin to kick in. So far we have two across my line in the sand with our baby still a year away. And there have been some scary moments with the first two. Kids today grow up and experience things totally different than when I was growing up. Thank God I have grey hair!

I don't think I would've run away -- it's difficult to run after you've just shit your pants (you'll just have to trust me on this one).

LOL, BB...He did say that he came real close to pooing in his pants! He also ripped the side of his steel toed boots and broke a toe running. He doesn't know excactly how but did... The police are taking this serious since it wasn't a standard robbery, plus the fact that the main bad guy had on a red bandana...(meaning a member of the Bloods)...or a wanna be. John's cell phone was never used...I was hoping one of the idiots would use it but they probably just threw it away.

Vipress, that sounds like a terrifying ordeal your son was put through. I'm so glad he kept a sensible head on his shoulders and focused on survival above all else.

DD- thats pretty close to every parents nightmare, glad to hear he did the right thing and is OK... cars can be recovered or replaced. BTW- what kind of car was he driving? just curious if the jackers were after something high end or were just too lazy to call a taxi.

I'm glad everything turned out alright, hopefully the police will gain control of the area.

I hope they get control too. The car is a '97 Chrysler LHS...11 years old but still in good shape. Plus John had tweeked the sound system( or was trying to, bless his heart)....lets just say the bass worked real well.

Kids are fragile. To be traumatized like that pisses me off.
Glad to hear everything is ok.

What everyone said above...sorry I'm late in reading this post.
John did EXACTLY what the police would've recommended...and thankfully it turned out okay, but the nightmare of what could have been a bad outcome still haunts even me sitting here safely in my basement.
I'm so glad beyond words that John is safe (albeit with a booboo toe). Thanks so much for letting us know.
