Any hurricane news from our Texan friends? What's up with Edwardo or whatever they are calling this one?
While we didn't have a hurricane up here, we did have a rare urban tornado sighting. I didn't even know we had tornado sirens in Chicago, but I know it now!......Jake

We had settled in to watch the Cubs and all of a sudden they are talking tornado warnings and sirens going off a couple of different times. What a great way to kill an early beer buzz in the bleachers. I talked to a couple of friends in SW LA this morning and they said they had experienced heavier thunderstorms than Eduardo. Of course they did not take the direct hit like TX. My son has friends working offshore this summer and he was texting them yesterday. They were going to just ride out the storm on the platform as the oil company chose not to evacuate their rigs.

Sitting here in the middle of TS EDOUARD. (In Houston) Almost no wind - some heavy rain - no big deal. I saw one small area that has already had 6" of rain. There are always small pockets the get more than their fair share. I expect most of the rain to be gone by this evening in the Houston area any way. The local news folks seem very disappointed, but they are still trying to hype it as much as possible.

Edited to add: The Bolivar ferry did not even close down and that's about 20 miles from where the center came ashore.

Tex obviously had the right idea... clearing off to Hedo for a week and avoiding the hurricane.

The last hurricane warning I was involved in was when my drunk wife 'n' me left Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans and we were 10 blocks from our hotel and Miss Southern belle sat down on the curb and lost her 1 1/2 hurricanes. Nasty things, those hurricanes are.
My wife hates the color red to this day.

Been there, done that Steve. Also grabbed several packages of the mix at the airport on the way out... self-medication you understand.

To make matters worse the next morning at breakfast she was still sick, sick, sick and I sat down, on purpose, with a bowl of red jello. She jumped up and ran back to our room holding her hand over her mouth. On the way home we hadn't even made it Slidel and I think I broke a record for the number of ways she described me, the least she called me was son-of-a-bitch. The harder I laughed the madder she got. Oh well, no one understands me.

Red Jello, hopefully it wont melt before UPS drops it off at your door We were at the grocery store last Sunday and I offered to buy some jello and make jello shooters. The look I got was priceless.

So youre saying that for Southern Belle, if you give her shooters, you get shooters back at you

We got a hell of a rain (about 6") the other night - very rare and welcome in mid August. I don't know if it was a straggler from the hurricane or not. This time of year, a light weight hurricane usually does Texas more good than harm.

Tex, I know what you mean. It's been unseasonally cool the last few days and rainy. MUCH needed! Average temp right now should be close to 100 and the high for today is 86! This weekend it's only suposed to be in the mid 70's.....strange...
