The jewel of the Suffolk coast, Aldeburgh is about a one hour drive up the coast from us, and is a quiet, almost unspoilt haven from the masses who head for the tacky 'delights' of this region's more downmarket resorts such as Great Yarmouth, Southend and Clacton-on-Sea. Due to stringent planning controls, Aldeburgh has barely changed in decades. The town's High Street is home to many delightfully boutiques and speciality shops, and some of the best restaurants in the area, in fact even the two fish and chip shops are so highly revered that there are always long lines of customers going out the door and down the street. Every summer since they were babies my mother has taken my daughters to Aldeburgh for a week, either renting a house of staying in a hotel, and this year has been no different. They set off this morning, and as it was such a beautiful day I thought I'd follow them up there and spend the day with them : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AldeburghSimon

What a nice set of pictures and the town is something like I'd want to experience. We're fortunate to have lots of coastal communities here, each with a different personality but a beach village in England sounds great. Someday I'll get there. It rained on and off all day here but we had a fun time at my wife's company picnic.

The second picture showing the pastel and brightly colored buildings remind me of Cape May New Jersey, also a thriving beach town located at the tip of the Garden State.
