We have friends that just got from Desire. They are raving about it and say it's much better than H2 in nearly every aspect. (actually, every aspect)

I have heard a lot of good things about Desire and have wanted to go for some time. Only bad feedback I have heard first hand was from some friends who went at the same time as one of those exclusive 'beautiful people' groups who ruined the vibe of the place.

They left nothing out, overall, everything is better than H2. I was taken back because they aren't the type of people who care about details and never fuss. The place made quite an impression.

If I Might chime in here. Gail and I tried Desire in 06..Went with Denny's group.. Let's say We were so impressed were never going back there... I can say the service had Hedo beat hand's down.. There are people bringing you drink's all day..But then again. There's no pool bar to swim up too..The Main pool is Hardly used.. The wind never lets up..It's Constantly blowing..There's a reason that the place is lined with Plexi glass...Hot tub was nice..3 floor's up overlooking the resort..After an Afternoon of Drinking...Ya Right...We Had coupon's for the fancy restraunt's..Make sure you wear shoe.s to all of them ..Beach towels were turned in every night..If your looking for a quite time..it's great..Evening entertainment lasted till about 10:30 or so..Out side by the lobby bar.. No Sambuca there at all..Good thing that some of the staff were able to boot leg it in for us..At a price..Ganga was about a myth..Shopping down town Revealed more Policia Carrying Loaded Machine Gun's..Last Time I witnessed that I was in V.N.... PDA'S..Ya there were some..Not as many as at Hedo..But more Hard core Action .. Considering it a Lifestylers Resort..I know a couple that were there that week..Proud Swingers too....Couldn't find any action Asked where it was hiding.. For those of you that Know Gail ..Gail can have such a good time at Hedo, Laughing and carring on..She most often loses her voice by Wednesday...At Desire she ran out of books to read...True there were no E.C's running around screaming Bocci Ball's..But there was this one Guy..Every night about 5 Walking around the buildings with an Insect fogger..That was Fun.. Every body see's there Vacation differently..I'll keep seein Jamaica in mine...( G & G )

I'm glad you posted and it's true, everyone sees their trip differently. I know one couple that wouldn't go back because as they put it, "we can't stand the poverty." They had kids begging from them around the area and apparently it affected them.

I've read mixed reviews on Denny's - so I've wondered about it - initially we were thinking of it since we'd like to see some more of the world on vacation - the trouble is we have SOOO much fun in Jamaica! I don't know if we will venture over there or not. It's also more expensive. The one common theme when people are complaining about Jamaica and Hedo is - "but we have soo much fun" (or we have SUCH A good time) so we keep coming back. I noticed in my research that either people loved Desire or hated it but there was never any mention of "but we had soo much fun" and we're going back even though the _____ sucked (insert your own analogies). Just my two cents....

I Find Hedo spoil's your Fun sensors for every where else..I'm sitting here thinking.. Have I ever talked to or read of anybodys first trip to Hedo..And heard that the place suck's ? Think Hard....Have you?...As Dr.Bob says..Don't like it..Don't go back ! I'm finding Denny's to be one big Bitch board..I'll almost bet..The biggest Bitches come from at least 5 trip's of experience..People try to Duplicate that first week they visited the place..Try to relive all the joy and excitment..Now it's try to Build a better Mouse trap.. Hedo is what it Is..In My eyes..It's the Original and still the best... Expense..I figure Desire was about an extra Grand for the week..Or by My Gold Standard An Extra 3 -4 days at Hedo..Tipping is almost expected..Poverty..Ya it's everywhere.. Out side of Desire..There's not much to see..the senery along the road..It looked dead.. Don't let me Spoil it for ya..This is only my 4 cents worth....Hedo soon come

Like any trip -- to Desire or Hedo -- much of it depends on the people.
We've been to Desire a few times, the first being the April 06 DennyP trip with George & Gail. Most of the WWW'ers were kinda quiet and subdued; if it hadn't been for the group of close friends that accompanied us for the Bif St Lou / Muffy Van Tinkle nuptials it could have been a lot less fun. We spent a few days in Cancun before we moved to Desire (had to be in the country for several days before the wedding) and did not see a big police presence anywhere until we left for Desire. This coincided with the North American summit between Bush, Fox, and whoever is the king of Canada. Then, there was a MASSIVE display of firepower -- tons of riot police, barricades, armored vehicles, anti-aircraft guns, you name it.
The next time we went to Desire was a much different story. Rather than Dennys group, we went with our own St Louis friends and stayed thru the following week with the Fluffernutters group that also included an additional contingent from St Louis. The Fluffs were definitely a lively group; some in not an appealing way. Overall though, we met many wonderful fun people with this group. The pool was the center of activity during the daytime hours, with a lot of great "tequila volleyball" games. Twice that trip we organized (with the EC's help) "St Louis vs The World" Tequila Volleyball Championships. (If you happen to live "in the world," you need to know your team sucks!)
I personally do not have a problem with tipping the Desire staff. For a $20 bill I get incredible poolside service; Sylvia quickly knows what I'm drinking and never lets my mug get empty whether I order more or not -- she just keeps me well hydrated. I don't think any amount of money will get Delroy to notice me; and he's certainly not going to go out of his way for anything resembling "service." Sambuca is often hard to come by at Hedo as well.
In mid afternoon Desire brings around chilled wet face towels and collects them shortly afterward. At Hedo it can be a struggle to get any kind of towel.
At Desire they serve Lobster Bisque; at Hedo it's oxtail soup. I enjoy both, btw. In fact, although Desire's food is hands down way better than Hedo's, I do enjoy having some local or native-type dishes and that is missing at Desire. There's generally no Mexican food there! (Unless you make a special request from the food service manager, which we did, and he has prepared for you a personalized menu of the BEST Mexican food I've ever had. The five course meal at a private table on the beach, with wine and our own private waiter cost us $80 for our table of 4. Yes, we also tipped the waiter and the chef; and yes, it is all-inclusive, but still... would Hedo do that for you?)
If I were to choose where to go, I would choose Desire. But as we all know, it ain't necessarily up to me!

We've never been to Desire, but one common thread I've heard is it's fun if you take your party. Otherwise, it's pretty hit and miss. Don't know if this is true or not.
Also, the physical layout is said to be challenging at time . . . to get to the hot tub and other areas . . . again maybe Bif can comment on that.
Personally, I don't go to Hedo for the food or service as can find much better of both elsewhere. It's what you CAN'T find elsewhere that brings us back to Hedo.
I think there are many places where if you go with a group of known people, you can have a blast!!

Everything we've heard about Desire sounds like Grand Lido. It was a very nice trip just on the quiet side. Bob's post got me curious...How many times did you go to Hedo before you found just the right niche? Our first trip was in October and had alot of fun...the couple we met that took us under their wing go about 5 times a year( I will not say their names but many of you know them....he does the helicopter trick and her drunk laugh will never be forgotten) ;D The second trip was in March and yes helicopter man was there...made more really wonderful friends. Went back in November and loved the energy and people. We've talked about going at different times with alot of the group. Alot of you guys I've never met but would love to sit on the beach and drink a toast at sunset with you. Someday we may ch-ch-change our dates but for now we are having way too much fun.

We've been at different times of year. Our first trip was in March and was probably our most sedate (but we had enough fun to want to go back). One of our very BEST trips was over Halloween/Anniversary - had an absolute blast! We haven't been back at that time though I would go again. Only drawback was the amount of people - hard to get a table at dinner (unless you were with a big group and they were saving you a seat) or a chair on the beach, etc. That's why we tried Winter WWW which we have been on 4 or 5 times now. We enjoy the people and have a great time. Each one different though. I would like to try the Spanksgiving group - we know a lot of the people at that time though we've never been - one of our friends from Halloween goes at that time so we may ch-ch-change our dates one of these days.

We have had the good fortune to be able to vacation at both Hedos and both Desires. There are things that we have enjoyed about all four. And I cannot really say there is anything major that would keep us from going back to any of them.
Each holds something special for us. Hedo 3 was our first exposure to this type of resort. As a result it holds a memorable place in our heart. And I could spend my entire time sitting on the beach at Hedo 2 just watching and listening to Agustus. Regardless of where we end up we always have a great time meeting new people, visiting with old friends, and just hanging out in the sun and sand.
However for a multitude of little reasons we seem to have migrated to Desire in Cancun for our past few trips. Sometimes it is something as simple as an abundance of frequent flier miles that seem to be easier to book to Mexico than Jamaica. We are off to Desire again in September with Denny's group. I know we will have a fantastic time. And at the same time I know that some time during the trip I will think that next time we head out we need to go back to Jamaica.
These resorts are all winners. And that is a good thing in my book.

We have considered going to Desire in Cabo. It is new and from some of the reports over in Dennyland it is the place to go. It would be a much shorter trip for us than Cancun. It is also very expensive. We check into it for this summer and the 6 days there equals 10 at Hedo and not much difference in airfare. However I have no desire to go to Mexico anytime soon.
George mention in a post that "I Find Hedo spoil's your Fun sensors for every where else" and he is right. The first vacation we took after our first Hedo trip in 04 we realized than we have to keep a different mind set on other vacation. About the second day into it we thought hell this boring.
We have made some wonderful friends over the last four years at the WWW winter trip. Like Bob and some others we don't go for the food or lodging. We just finished a cruise and yes we met some very nice people, but they are not our Hedo Family.
We will keep going to Hedo.
Also we love Jamaica.

I have been to Mexico, lemme think now . . . a couple of times. The first time was when I was in college way back in the late 1970s. Several of us were in this cool bar in Acapulco when we got shafted by the owners and were forced to pay much more than we drank.
Last trip was with Backroads, a company that sponsors trips all around the world and the FREEKIN' POLICE stopped our bus and we had to pay them off, all the while I had my camcorder rolling until I realize we were in some real SHIT and I hid the damn thing.
Not to mention the fact it was a biking trip and 1 week before we left I got a call from Backroads begging me to bring my bike 'cuz they could't get enough bikes there for us due to the corruption.
I have no desire to go to Mexico ever again. Two-bit scum bags the likes of which I have never seen anywhere else they are.
