Over the weekend, we saw the show "Altar Boyz" in NYC. Not great, but not bad, either.
It was sort of a "story within a story," but skipping the middle story. Let me explain that. It was the story of five young friends, mostly altar boys (all but one, who was Jewish), who band together to preach the glory of God, and go out on the road. But, it doesn't *tell* their story; rather, it presents one night of their show, on the road, and lets you infer their story through their discussions and a few flashbacks. That was a pretty interesting narrative structure, which I found quite impressive.
The songs were interesting, if fairly predictable. Some were quite funny. I wasn't sure if they were trying to be pro-religion or anti-religion; in general, they were a little bit of both, and pretty even handed about the issue. Nothing too controversial.
Good times at the show, but nothing to stick to your ribs. See it for a bargain price if you can.....Jake

Thanks for the info Jake - I'm sure eventually I will get around to seeing this one, but won't put it high on my list

One of the leads was in my daughter's wedding last year. he turned down a major part to be in this. Sorry it wasn't overly good. i haven't seen it yet but my daughter has been several times but of course she's showing alittle favoritism!
