Michael "Cosmo Kramer" Richards utters some politically incorrect epithets on stage, and has the bad taste to be caught on tape doing it. But he's called some equally offensive names in the same exchange. Is there a difference? Food for thought......Jake (who wonders why some ethnic groups can offend some other groups, but can't be offended back in return)

I don't think he's a racist, just an idiot. In the clip, it does not look to me like he is trying to actually disparage an entire race, but simply that he is trying to see how much he can insult that one guy. Only, he has apparently forgotten that he is supposed to be doing comedy. His comebacks are neither creative nor funny.
I heard he apologized on Dave last night, but I didn't see it. It's his Mel Gibson moment, but he's not drunk, so what is his exuse? Will he recover?
I keep thinking about the person that recorded that. I'm pretty certain the club has rules that recording the performance is not allowed. Do they or Richards have any recourse? Dare they persue it?

I agree with you Jeremy. I also think he didn't have the ability to recover from a low moment (which happens to comedians) but this situation completely fell apart. That was ugly for him and the audience.

Well, now at least we know why there were never any African Americans on Seinfeld -- at least Happy Days had Sticks.

I think he needs some anger management..after all these years he should have been able to handle a heckler with a little more class than he did.

Recently, Howard Stern has been interviewing some comedians that know him. According to them, he has never really had a traditional stand-up comedy act and has mostly relied on some wacky brand of performance art in his routine, mixed with some degree of improve. Mostly, it bombs and he winds up getting heckled quite a lot -- and if you're a customer at a comedy club paying $10 per drink, I think you could probably understand why.
