Summer TV sucks a big. Everything is a friggin repeat. I am already bored at night and thinking of adding to my cable program to see if I can find more on TV.
How many of you have cable and how many have the dish and wish do you prefer?
Joe.

I had a CBand dish until last fall, and now have a small dish. No idea what the cable situation is in town. I live about 4 miles past the limits of the cable company, and for $$$ reasons I have been told that I will NEVER have the 'pleasure' of cable service.
THAT being said, I am looking forward to the "Into the West" series that starts this weekend on TNT (I believe).

I have digital cable and am more satisfied with the service now because about six months ago, they began offering an additional tier of HDTV channels, which includes ESPN-HD.
If you don't have HDTV, I would highly recommend you make that move first because it will greatly enhance not only the experience of watching your TV programs (at least those transmitted in HD) , but also, it will greatly enhance your DVD watching experience as well (provided you have a decent DVD player).
If you do have HDTV and are in the fortunate position of choosing between cable & satellite, then what I would recommend is researching how many HDTV channels are provided on your local cable system vs. satellite.
One thing to keep in mind if you're considering satellite: both DirectTV & Dish Network are aggressively adding HDTV channels. DirectTV is supposed to be launching new technology some time this year which will add more channels overall, including more HDTV channels. Also, with the VOOM Satellite service recently ending, their parent company (CableVision) has been selling off many of their assets -- Dish has bought a number of their HDTV channels already and is supposedly planning to buy more.

Been think about upgrading to the Digitial Cable service.
I have been wanting HDTV but haven't done anything about it, so I guess now is the time. I currently have Comcast Cable but have been think about a Dish. Will have to research both and then decide what to do.
Thanks for the info.
I seen that I think I am going to give it a try.

Joe, depending on how much (or how long) you want to research this, you may also want to consider attending the Home Entertainment Expo (West) in San Francisco. It's usually held in the fall, although the one last year (November, I think) was cancelled due to a labor dispute with the hotel workers in SF (thought you might like that one).
If you're interested, here is contact info for the company that does PR for the event:
Greg Nivens 410-769-8223 x105 gnivens@mooreamarketing.com
I go to the one in the east (here in NYC) every year -- went to this year's about a month ago and had a blast. Very informative & educational, so I highly recommend going if you can -- especially if they're still doing it in the SF area.

Because unless you've got some kind of illegal hookup, there's no way to watch the Sopranos on HBO for free.

Them Rabbit Ears work fine on my TV. psssst....... Why pay for TV when its free? Because without the cable or dish I would get one (count em 1) channel on a regular basis, and one other, Canadian station (insert BB Canadian remark here), if the atmospherics are right. Gordon

I have digital cable and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It is MUCH BETTER since it went digital, because before, the broadcasts over the air of the local network affiliate channels (i.e., ABC, CBS, NBC) interfered with the cable signal and they were always fuzzy on my screen. Now that it's digital, there is no interference and no fuzz.
But in truth, the only reason I have what I have is because it comes free from my condo association (well, not REALLY free, of course, but you know what I mean). Otherwise, I might have looked into a Dish system. Do they still not allow local network channels on satellite systems? Because that would truly suck.
Joe: for summer viewing, I recommend you go to your local Tower or whatever you have out there and get yourself a big box set (DS9, Firefly, Battlestar Erotica, etc.) (or the LOTR Extended Editions of course) to pleassure yourself with.......Jake

Gordon, Please Insert the following:
... and that channel would be one that transmits audio in Pig Latin as a compromise because they can't decide whether to speak English or French.

Thanks Jake, never thought of that. Look like I am going go for broke and get the Comcast top of the line watch whatever the fuck I want programing.Digital, Movies on Demand, TiVo and whatever else will jump out of my 42 inch TV screen. The sad part, there will still most likely be nothing to watch!!!!!!!!! Joe.

Don't forget that Sopranos Season 5 just came out on DVD yesterday -- just picked it up and started looking at it last night. Got me really anxious for the next (final?) season. FWIW, I hope you're really not "pleasuring yourself" to these videos ... otherwise, there may be a more serious underlying problem here ...
