You wonder why Jack is the way he is. Having a PIECE OF SHIT for a father. Could you imagine what it's like at the Bauer household on Thanksgiving. father: walking in to kitchen, opens the door, peeks in. "Jack is the turkey almost done?" Jack: turns and looks at father with that jack look, drops the fork that he has in the turkey, pulls his weapon, points at poppa bauer, "STEP AWAY FROM THE DOOR. I AM JUST DOING MY JOB!" pops a cap into his fathers ass. to be continued

SO...will the Prez pull through - or are we looking at finishing the series with the VP? The website poll has it he's alive by 4:1 - at 10:10am CST today anyway.
PS - Chloe is one HOT lady. Just thought I'd say that.

I'd say both will survive, the president and ... Sahid (did I get the name right?) I think Tom will fight the VP if he doesn't get killed himself.
Also, where the heck is the VP going? He's been in a plane for 6 hours or more now.

He's only the VICE president, a position compared to a warm cup of spit in the past. He's flying around aimlessly trying to rack up Air Force One frequent flyer milage. That trip to Disneyland is so close he can taste it!
That or they are flying him around to keep him safe since the country has been nuked.
I am leaning towards the Disney theory though.

Hey hes better than the REAL vice president. Did anyone see the footage of Dick Cheney and John Howard standing together in Australia? wearing the same outfit, and looking EXACTLY alike? it was very weird.
i think the president will survive. it does seem that the black guy gets killed a lot tho. David palmer, curtis.....could wayne be next?

I think perhaps you ought to keep your political opinions out of this section of the board. I specifically did not go to the political section of this board so as to not be offended by any leftists who are an affront (that means "offensive" for anyone who voted democrat in the last election) to me.
That being said, it's a toss up as to the survival chances of the President. On any other show he would totally survive because he's a "good guy." But in 24 one never knows. Whatever you are certain is going to happen you end up being surprised about. Think of all the characters you loved in the beginning and then ended up hating for vice versa. I also think he'll survive but am always, 100% wrong when I make any guesses about any plot twists on this show.

um....it was just an observation about how much the vice president looks like john howard. i certainly didnt mean to upset you. perhaps....you should read jake's anger management post.
thanks for the vocabulary lesson.

Someone not getting enough fiber in their diet?
It was an observation - not a political statement.
Gotta love thread drift!

I don't want to argue but "Hes better than the REAL vice president" could certainly be construed as a political statement.
Is this thread about 24 or BDS? Or in this case CDS?

i also prefer it when we keep our snide political opinions confined within the politics area. many people use this board for things that aren't political, and they have no stomach for the bad tempers that are displayed in that area. our efforts to keep the rest of the board pleasant for them allows us the opportunity to have sillier and more pleasant conversations ourselves.
that being said, queenalisa, there are no rules here. the nastiness does tend to spill over everywhere. while you can request that people refrain from things, telling then what they *ought* to do is likely to only make things worse.
just my point of view, take it or leave it as you see fit.
Zilla (who is giving you the benefit of the doubt that you meant to ask and just used a poor choice of words)

Personally, I don't find saying "I think perhaps you ought to keep your political opinions out of this section . . ." to be particularly harsh. It seems pretty gentle to me. AND I agree that what Mike said was a political statement meant to place our VP in a bad light, though I can see nothing wrong with our Veep dressed as he was. I believe that our POTUS (in the show!!) will survive, but the terrorist fellow will likely die . . . word will get out that *we* killed him and the Mooslum terrorists will go ape shit. Not that they haven't already . . . ..........Bob

It seems pretty gentle to me. ..........Bob and if i had said it was harsh, perhaps that would mean something. that isn't what i said though. what i said, since it seems unclear to you, is that telling people what they OUGHT to do is rarely taken well by the receiver. it tends to be taken worse when what OUGHT to be done isn't for the betterment of the person who OUGHT to do it, but simply because their opinions are an affront to another. and it tends to be taken exceptionally unwell when you then exacerbate (that means "to make things worse" for those of you who voted republican in the last election) things by implying that someone is stupid and needs large words defined for them.* such as, "i think DrBob and Zilla ought to not have one of their continuous and repetitive discussions that almost always leads to DrBob SHOUTING about Librul Lunacy here in this thread". Are you taking kindly to that suggestion? *this sentence was an intentional example of the inflammatory nature of that action, and was kept as close to the original as possible Zilla (who is still giving queenalisa the benefit of the doubt, but is now giving up on this thread returning to "normal" because DrBob and zilla are conversing in it, and that is never a good thing)

queen alisa....i think you should get over yourself. i certainly didnt mean to offend anyone, but the shot i took was at one public person, and it was meant as a lighthearted joke. the shot you took was at everyone who votes differently than you do.
next time...get out of your glass house before you throw stones.

queen alisa....i think you should get over yourself. i certainly didnt mean to offend anyone, but the shot i took was at one public person, and it was meant as a lighthearted joke. the shot you took was at everyone who votes differently than you do. next time...get out of your glass house before you throw stones. and i believe you already told her how unhappy you were with her response. i think you said it in such a way that she might feel the need to defend her position, don't you? i took what you said as a political potshot too. if i had been an active part of this thread it is a good possibility i would have asked you if you could try to keep the political jokes to a minimum so that people could continue to play nicely. i think her *request* was a good and valid one, even if i did have some small qualms about the way it was worded. now looking at what you just said above, do you see that you have allowed her any way to apologize for her miswording (if indeed that is what it was) with dignity? i sure don't see you making any allowances for her, so i don't think she will be moved to make any allowances for your original joke. So, i guess i have to ask you, do you *want* to be able to have this situation solved amiably, or are you yet another one of the people in this world who enjoy seeing people behave at their baser (angrier) levels? Zilla (who is frequently saddened by the cruelty of people, and by people she includes herself)

zilla:
i will point out yet again....what i said was meant as a lighthearted joke, and pointed at a photograph of 2 men who look similarly to begin with, and then were dressed similarly.
i understand some people not wanting to take part in political discourse, and wanting to remain out of that portion of this board (i recently found out i am not quite mean enough to talk to some people who frequent this place) . That being said 24 is a political show. The joke was just that, a joke, and the response was an attack on an entire group of people (most of whom are NOT me).
had the retort been about me personally, or had the poster asked me to please refrain (with out the hate speech) i would have gladly altered, or taken down the post. as it stands now....i doubt i will.
that being said zilla.....i am sorry if i offended you.

Zilla (who is frequently saddened by the cruelty of people, and by people she includes herself) How does this post make you feel, Zilla? Saddened by the cruelty?? Did Boston Mike touch a nerve revealing a severance of feelings all too long ago lost in a revelation of bliss? Does thy sense of wonder at the anger humans reflect on their neighbors simply PISS YOU OFF?? Might I assuage your mental discourse with a moment of temple being of the highest order?? Though you cannot effect the mental sufferings of others or alter their trails, you may enter higher levels of being to grasp your inner self. Count the chirps of the grasshopper . . . it is your number to nirvana.

Sheesh ... I was shocked by what transpired here.
It seemed to me that my comments were as innocuous as the initial comments made by Boston Mike. I was certain they would offend some people but thought the gander could use a little sauce. It is blatantly unfair that the left gets to spout off but heaven forbid someone from the right make a comment.
I wrote "I think you ought ..." This was not an order but an opinion. I am perfectly happy to explain my political ideology but don't feel this is the place for it. But since this is pretty much a free for all and I am allowed to be as nasty as I want ...
I f*&%ing hate leftist ideology with my heart and my soul. I am unapologetic about it. Those who expound it are either stupid or evil. If you are a leftist you need to figure out which one you are.
Unlike the majority of democrats in this country who are trying to move us towards a defacto socialist system I have lived in not just one, but two, socialist countries. It is a repugnant system that destroys the human spirit. Not as much as communism but it is a close second.
My family escaped from a communist country whose leader still has his balls licked regularly by many (but thankfully not all) democrat leaders in this country. They think he is swell so I hate them.
So you will have to understand why I have no tolerance for people who want to take the country that saved my father's life (literally) and make it more like the nation from which he escaped. And I will not stand by and hear people defame the character of a man who has done more for this nation than ANY of us on this board, myself included. The greatest sacrifice that he has made has been to suffer the nastiness, the name calling and the defamation of his character based on nothing but mean spiritedness on the part of the left wing.
But this is what the left does when it doesn't have anything intelligent or factual to bring to the table ... call people names. They keep repeating their baseless accusations and eventually they become fact. I am happy to give at least one example but it will spark an even greater debate that is not relevent to this thread either.
I honestly don't wish to offend people. If I apologize for anything it is for the aggressiveness and abrasiveness of my words. Regardless of what people might think my right wing stance comes from the same place that left wing people's ideas come from ... the desire to help others. I understand that most leftists honestly feel that they are trying to help people.
I feel better now.
And Boston Mike ... 2 men in suits ... what the heck do you want? It's not like you men get to wear much that's fabulous in the business world. And both Cheney and Howard would look silly in D&G's flashier stuff. So they wear Brook's Bros and sometimes Brioni ... that's about as flash as you'll get in the business/political world.
Now ... can we go back to talking about 24? Because Jack sure got himself into a pickle last night. But the fact that he speaks Russian is wicked hot. And how cool is Boris the Bullet Dodger? One needs a really good bad guy don't you think?
