I now know how "Miranda" 0f Sex in the City felt when her TIVO malfunctioned!! Our hard drive died on it last week, just in time for the season finale of so many shows. We only purchased it in February!!! It just BITES!!!!

Edie, we just got one in Feb also (for the Olympics), but it hasnt yet become a part of our 'lifestyle'. Basically they are just a specialized TV, and I believe, that just about any hard drive will do (I will look into that before committing). Think of it as a time to upgrade.. you could put a terrabyte drive in there and have the capacity to record more TV than you could watch in your lifetime!

We have a DVR from Comcast with our cable subscription. It is the same as a TIVO. Never turn the TIVO off. Leave it on at all times. It will burn the hard drive out by the continued on and off usuage.
Just passing this info on. Thats what they guy from Comcast told us.
Joe.

Thanks guys...TIVO is part of my life now, just like my cell phone. I record all the shows that I watch for the entire season. That way if I am gone or busy I don't have to remember to ask it to record. DirecTV is sending me a new unit.

Does anyone know the difference between TiVO and a DVR recorder that comes with a hard drive?
Just wondering - was looking at a Panasonic one that could record DVDs and had the hard drive on it too.
