My daughter goes to college at William & Mary in Williamsburg VA. She has had an internship this semester at Colonial Williamsburg, and it got her onto the set of Tom Hanks HBO miniseries 'John Adams'. She was working behind the scenes with her internship supervisor, clearing actual historical pieces of furniture out of the way (if they were going to be used as direct props, that is handled by the actors) and replacing those with replicas. Biggest concern was for things like chairs that would be used for sitting and chinaware.
She got to meet Paul Giamatti, who plays Adams, and Asst Director Tom Hooper, saw but did not meet Stephen Dillane who plays Thomas Jefferson, Danny Huston who plays Samuel Adams, and Rufus Sewell who plays Alexander Hamilton, and she got be on set while filming.
Adams never visited Williamsburg during his life, apparently it is 'standing in' for colonial Boston.
