I love Christmas Specials on TV. I rarely watch them in real time anymore, of course, because a) they show them way too early, like in November and b) I have them all on DVD. But I try to watch them at seasonable times. Anyway, my favorites are: - The Grinch
- Charlie Brown
- Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer
How about youse guys? Any faves that you have to see every year to get "in the mood"?......Jake edited to add: P.S. The Christmas mood, you perverts!!

I love all the ones you have listed and also have a special fondness for "White Christmas".
Another one that I watch over the season is "the Year Without A Santa Claus", not because I like the story overly much, but because I love the song about "He's Mister Heat Miser, he's Mister Sun"
Zilla (who might have to watch her copy of one of the list tonight now that you have mentioned them, you evil evil man)

I have a 45-min. tape that is the "Linus & Lucy" song played over and over in a continuous loop that I play a lot this time of year.
This time of year I also like to watch "Meet me in St. Louis" for Judy Garland's "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" song in it where her husband, the director, uses cheesecloth to soften her skin into a dreamy glow...I just sigh. (Jake, she's got bangs--you'd like it.)

Hands down the TV version of the Grinch who stole Christmas (the movie sucked!). With lyrics like this, whats not to like.
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You're as cuddly as a cactus, You're as charming as an eel. Mr. Grinch.
You're a bad banana With a greasy black peel.
You're a monster, Mr. Grinch. Your heart's an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders, You've got garlic in your soul. Mr. Grinch.
I wouldn't touch you, with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.
You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch. You have termites in your smile. You have all the tender sweetness Of a seasick crocodile. Mr. Grinch.
Given the choice between the two of you I'd take the seasick crockodile.
You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch. You're a nasty, wasty skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks Your soul is full of gunk. Mr. Grinch.
The three words that best describe you, are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk."
You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch. You're the king of sinful sots. Your heart's a dead tomato splot With moldy purple spots, Mr. Grinch.
Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable, Mangled up in tangled up knots.
You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch. With a nauseaus super-naus. You're a crooked jerky jockey And you drive a crooked horse. Mr. Grinch.
You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool sandwich With arsenic sauce.

Oh yes... in the Dickens Christmas Carol catagory, there is no doubt in my mind that the version starring George C Scott was best produced and most closely followed the Dickens story.

I love the Grinch, the animated version. It's been my favorite since I was a kid. The live action version with Jim Carrey is also on alot in our house because my littlest guy loves it.
I also love the Year Without Santa Claus, the one with the Heat Miser and the Snow Miser. Love those guys! LOL!!!! This also the big little guy's favorite.
Brian's favorite is White Christmas.

In the Christmas movies department there is a LOT out there to loathe, take "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (1964), the film which catapulted Pia Zadora to stardom.

I am truly surprised no one has mentioned the forgettable "A Christmas Story" that TBS has manufactured into a "cult classic' with Christmas Eve marathons so that there is no way we are allowed to forget it. Like a bad song, one little reminder and the loop of inanity starts up again (you can thank me for reminding you later).
I have absolutely no memory of this film in the theater, yet given is annual TV play one would think it was the top grossing Christmas movie ever. I will admit that I still laugh at the movies two scenes when the neighbors hounds invade the kitchen, but no one dares to say "You'll poke your eye out kid" in my household.

but no one dares to say "You'll poke your eye out kid" in my household. Oh no My Dear. "You'll SHOOT your eye out." LOL!!! Brian hadn't seen it until about two years ago, hadn't even heard of it until I made him sit down and watch it. It's just not Christmas without seeing Ralphie in the Pink Bunny suit footie pajamas. LOL!!!! But only one time, the 24 hour thing is a bit much. Deb

I am truly surprised no one has mentioned the forgettable "A Christmas Story" What am I? Chopped liver? Jeremy Of course not. I think the beauty of my post must have dazzled their eyes and scrambled their brain and they forgot your post entirely I used to be very fond of "A Christmas Story" but then last year and the year before I was forced to have it on in the background for a 24 hour marathon. An entire day of "A Christmas Story" was enough to make ME want to shoot Ralphie's eyes out. I think it's going to take a few years of absence for my heart to grow fond of it again I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Homecoming" (1971), it being the show that introduced the nation to The Waltons. Zilla (Hey Christinko, I have the whole disc of vince guaraldi's "a charlie brown christmas" and I love it!)

I just thought of one of my totally favorite movies that is Christmas related (kinda, very vaguely, okay, the movie starts on a Christmas morn in a distant past). "The Life Of Brian" Now THAT is a movie I think is worth pulling out several times a year!
Zilla ("Three Wise Men? Three Wise Guys is more like it.")

LOVE the Christmas Story - it's a "must see". Add to that "It's a Wonderful Life". I've got a thing for the old black & white movies. Must be left over from the childhood daze.

"It's a Wonderful Life" is truly a classic. But not as warm and fuzzy as most people seem to remember it! It actually is quite dark, as are many of Capra's flicks.
My favorite line is when Sheldon Leonard is tossing Clarence and George out of the bar for being so goofy, and he says: "Out you two pixies go; out the door or tru da window!!"
Well, that, and the line about "those GARLIC eaters!!".......Jake

He performed it here about 3 years ago but we found out to late to get tickets. Joe.
