Looks like they'll have to beam down an Away Team to search for them.
Simon (who would be sad to see a previously 'unknown to the viewers' Yeoman will meet a hideous death, as happens on many Away Team missions, just to look for some ashes)

The whole idea of sending the ashes into space and bringing them down again was stupid and a huge waste of resources. I thought they'd burn up in the atmosphere on the way back down or something....
