The Princess and I rented some movies over the weekend. I'll try to get some real reviews out soon, but here are some preliminary thoughts:
"Return to Me" - one of those old-fashioned love story type flicks. I even told my parents they should rent it. David Duchovny is a Chicago builder whose wife is killed in a car crash. A year later, he finds himself strangely attracted to Minnie Driver, a waitress who ended up with his wife's heart. Their relationship is endangered by the secret that she can barely dare to share. The supporting characters (Bonnie Hunt, Jim Belushi, Carrol O'Connor, etc.) give it sort of a "Moonstruck" feel. Good stuff. The fact that it was filmed in my neighborhood in Chicago make it even better.
"Catwoman" - not nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe. Good cartoon action, impressive special effects, and lots of enjoyable mumbo-jumbo to explain it all. And one of the best cat fights since "Two Days in the Valley".
"The Forgotten" - This movie feels just like a lost "X-files" episode. A mother who remembers losing her son over a year ago is told that she never had a son, and has imagined the whole thing. Is she mad? Or is it a massive consipracy? Only her dogged persistence finally reveals the answer. Good drama and good acting, but in the end it really didn't make much sense. Even the "alternate ending" on the DVD didn't help much.
More analysis to come.....Jake
