Hi Everyone,
This forum is great especially for those of us that are silver-screen challenged! We would like to go to a movie tonight and need a recommendation.
If there was one movie we really shouldn't miss and just HAD to go see, which one would you recommend?
Thanks!

I have no recommendations. There is nothing out in current release that I feel strongly about seeing. But if box office stats influence your decision then check out Fandango. www.fandango.com/boxofficeresults.asp

Perfect! Thanks guys!! Since I never heard of either Ray or Sideways, (trust me, that doesn't say much for us) it's a great suggestion!
Hazel - that site is fabulous! Great help, I'm not really a rating person either except that it seems whatever the masses like we don't always agree with and the lesser popular ones we think are actually pretty good.
Thanks again....

Glad you liked the site, Renee. I really like Fandango. Whenever I want to see a movie I check out what's playing at my favorite theaters (you can choose up to five in your favorites list). You can buy tix (including matinees) in advance too (for MOST theaters but not all of 'em) so you don't have to get stuck on a long line at the box office and then possibly sold out. Reviews and stats are just a few of the little extras.

Hey DT - Thanks for the suggestions - we went and saw "Sideways" - it was cute. We were more in the mood for mindless humor so it was perfect. A little bit drawn out at times, but we got an added bonus that we didn't expect so we didn't mind.
Where they filmed the movie was in Los Olivos which is where my daughter works (She lives in Santa Barbara) and they even showed the building in which her office is housed! We had also been to Solvang and had driving around the vineyards and surrounding country side so it was a fantastic surprise to see all of this in the movie. We were thrilled with all of that. Who knew? Thanks again!
Oh - Hazel - we couldn't print our own tickets as the place didn't support this but geeze what a great feature to have when you can!

Sorry, JD, just kidding. In truth, I had three glasses of Merlot tonight. It was a Chilean merlot (Conch y Toro), but what the heck, I'm a cheapskate....Jake

Thanks for drinkin the wine Jake, but please buy the ones made here. Kind of bad for business if you buy over seas wines.
We make some good inexpensive ones to.
Joe.

I'd be delighted to support our domestic producers, Joe. This was a 1.5 liter bottle of Merlot for about ten bucks. What California brand would you recommend for a similar price? Thanks!....Jake
P.S. - I'd even drink a Canadian brand to help out Lou and his lady if they have one. NAFTA and all that shit, you know!
P.P.S. - Talk about thread drift! But it's all in a day's work here at the Thursday Night Movie Club! Anything goes!!

1.5 liter for 10 bucks, don't know if it is in your area but one called "Barefoot", would fit. Also "Glen Ellen". Some brands have a 750ml bottle for 5 to 6 bucks. Here are a few more that might fit: Turning Leaf Kendal Jackson Gallo Napa Ridge Woodridge Watch for specials. Joe. ps. Are we going to be relocated for thread drift, I mean this is the worst one yet?

... Are we going to be relocated for thread drift, I mean this is the worst one yet? ... Worst one yet? Yes, probably. Relocated? NEVER!!! My philosophy is, this message board is meant to mirror the kind of chats and conversations you have at Hedo. Have you ever had a conversation in the hot tub, on the beach, at the Piano Bar, etc., that STAYED on ONE TOPIC with no drift? Of course not! And neither do these. So, we meander all the fuck over the damn place. That's life. And that's the way it is here too. Meander away! And I'll check out those wine brands. Thanks!.....Jake

Ya Mon, nothing like a pleasant surprise. I was watching a Keanu Reeves flick and low and behold there was #3 Pump House (a shut down water pumping station) where I work, right before my eyes. Hollywood must keep a low profile on their filming. I had no clue they filmed a scene there.

We had also been to Solvang and had driving around the vineyards and surrounding country side so it was a fantastic surprise to see all of this in the movie. We were thrilled with all of that. Hey, I had that same thing happen to me!!! I used to live in downtown Los Angeles (hey, I didn't know it was a shit hole when I moved there and I didn't stay long), and I remember watching Collateral (sorry Jake, I know you hate Tom Cruise) and when they drove to downtown L.A., I was all, "Hey, I know that place!!!" Screaming it in the middle of the theatre. The parking lot, that's where I used to park to go to California Pizza Kitchen. They even got off the freeway on the same exit that I used to come home from work (I think it was the 9th St. exit, or was it 6th??) Anyway, it was a total trip to see my old stomping grounds on film. The only thing missing from the movie was the resident bum I had adopted who used to sit outside my apartment building. Ahhh, good times.
