I went in to DC for the Cherry Blossom festival with a friend of mine. We didn't stay all day and didn't get there for the Parade (since I can't do TONS of walking). Here is a pic (not by me) of the parade:
The day started out really nice and then it became overcast and was spitting rain at us and a bit windy. We walked around and looked at all the booths. I only took one lonely pic at the festival with my camera phone - was trying to get in the Capitol Building (and don't think I succeeded) - I did bring my camera so yes, I am just useless ;D
There were a lot of booths with a Japanese theme - you'll see them off to the side - it was 2 streets of them in DC - we got some food at one - they even had a beer garden - it was roped off and people were standing around drinking beer - I believe you had to purchase tickets at $2.00 each and some of the beers were 3 or 4 tickets for a glass! I thought that was expensive! Down where the beer garden was were also food tents. We stopped at one - I got teriaki chicken sticks, fried rice and lomain noodles for $10. The chicken was done on a grill and was REALLY good. The fried rice was the lone thing that wasn't so good - didn't really have much taste.
My main purpose for going was to get a poster from the festival - I want to frame it and send it to my sister for her guesthouse. Thought it would be a novelty in Scotland - and LOVE the image I got one for myself too. I've made it my avatar for a while but here is a closer pic:
We stayed about 2-3 hours and then came home. Didn't go down to the cherry blossoms - I worked in DC for 12 years or so and have seen them driving many a time (yes, they are beautiful) and have walked down to them too along the Tidal Basin. Here are some pics not taken by me of the Tidal Basin with the Cherry Blossoms in bloom.
Thought I'd take a stab at this trip report stuff. I also thought I'd actually SEE something in DC since I live here and there's so much going on all the time. Lived here almost all of my life and never ONCE ventured downtown for this. We took the Metro - was really the way to go...
