Palm Springs CA 2-3 thru 2-5 2006:
Things were insane around here last week. So Friday night the 3rd I visited hotwire and searched Palm Springs. The first hotel offered was an unnamed 4 star resort. Claimed average rate of $ 289.00 a night, all for $ 112.00. We went for it, and quicker than quick after the money was taken care of we found out we were at the Westin Mission Trails Resort. Less than 3 hours later we were in our room. Not the best, not the worst. Big fluffy white bed. Great shower heads. Was dark couldn’t see much of the resort. Sleep. The Palm Springs sun was up early. Got up to about 84 that day. Breakfast at Elmer’s Pancake house. Average breakfast fare, Shopping for Deb. haircut and beard trim for me. Lunch and back to the resort. 2 full golf courses, 3 big pools, one with a small water slide. Small gym, Tennis facility with school. Spa. All the resort stuff. Waterfalls, ponds, mini bars, full size bars, gift shops, expensive restaurants, more expensive room service. Guests all over the place, but no friendly people anywhere to be found. The pools were great when the kids were asleep. The 2 hot tubs we tried were hot, 8 minutes hot. Now for the good and not so good
Good: The Westin bed. The golf courses. If only I played golf. Very pretty resort. Never ate there. Lots of good restaurants in Palm Springs. The pools and the pool towels. Big fluffy blue and white stripe pool towels
NSG: $ 289.00 a night full price for a big room. Truly snooty people. Little kids, no rich little kids. 3 eggs $12.00 resort fee they don’t mention.
Highlight of the trip. On the way out of town we called The Terra Cotta Inn just to see where it was in town, and Tom the owner invited us for a tour. Tom and his wife moved from Chicago to open this place. Didn’t get to meet her. Very nice clothing optional boutique hotel. Ring the bell at the door, and inside the walls are a good size pool, and Jacuzzi, Lots of lounges. During the tour several people spoke to us. We were the only ones wearing clothes, it is a friendly place. Just 17 rooms. Not overly luxurious, some rooms have kitchens. But we are trying to fit a visit into our schedule. Hey maybe we will get the room with the private entrance. The one that Marilyn and JFK used to share. This Inn has some history.
Overall not a bad way to get out of town for a weekend.
