Got back at 2am Sunday morning from a trip to Vicksburg,Mississippi. We met the Viper club for a little Civil War history and a fun drive. It was a blast except for the rain...kinda made it tricky. The drive home was a bitch! I was exhausted by the time we got home! Went to Grand Gulf Battle Field where 15-20 thousand soldiers died. It was cold and wet.....was bitching in my own head when it hit me I could go to the car at any time, but 150 years ago they would have to live in it. Humbled me..... Then we went to Windsor Ruins.......used to be an awesome mansion.....was built in the early 1860's(I think)...right after it was finished the owner died....in his 30's. I can't remember the date that it was burned....not by soldiers but an apparent accident. What is left is the columns standing three stories. There is a sketch that a Union soldier made....what a house!! 23 rooms, three stories.......and two bathrooms(?). Then we went to the Emerald Mound. Was really cold by then, so I didn't stay out too long. Bill honey, if you read this please remind me what it was all about so I don't get it wrong. Then we had dinner at Anchuca, which is where Jefferson Davis gave his last speech before surrendering Vicksburg to the Union. Fabulous!!! Of course....had to drive fast as well...... DD

The Emerald mound is one of the largest Indian mounds-it was used for cermonies.
I thought it was really funny when we pulled into the Windsor ruins...another group had just pulled in ahead of us in a van. Instead of looking at or taking pictures of the ruins they had their back to the Windsor house and were taking pictures of us. (well I guess you had to be there-we thought it was hilarious)
It was a good road trip-700 miles in less than 36 hours--I'm getting to old for that

Tell us story!!! Please!!! Please!!!
Sounds like a educational trip!! It is amazing the thoughts that go through your head and the gut reaction you can have when you put yourself in the place of another isn't it? One of these days I would like to go the battlefields. I would love to hear more...

Never Our 'toy' is a very low key, in fact almost invisible "arrest me red" Dodge Viper. I guess they hadn't seen 7 Dodge Vipers racing around the back roads of Mississippi very often...there were 11 cars at the cruise but because of the rain 4 didn't drive. If you ever get the oppurtunity to ride with DD I only recommend it if you have a strong stomach and fully paid life insurance-she is a speed demon!! Bill

Edie, I told Bill that it's a real shame that I don't know enough about Arkansas history and their involvment in the Civil War. That is something I plan to research. It was a learning experience! I just wish the weather was nicer so we could stay outside longer. If you look real close in the woods, you can see artifacts. I'm sure they were placed there to give the effect of what it was like. They had a Museum with a coach house. That was coll.....had an old hearse in there that came from New Orleans....black velvet curtains and all. Sorry I can't detail more.............. DD
