What a week. The couple from the small country town of 10,000 heads to the BIG CITY of over 8 million for vacation. People from home told us “are you nuts”, “you are going to hate it”, you will get sticker shock from the prices”, “ you’re going to get mugged”, “stay off the subway they are not safe”. Well guess what “yes I am a little on the nutty side, but we loved it, the prices aren’t that bad (except for drinks), we didn’t get mugged, and we rode the hell out of the subway. As a matter of fact we had the subway system down . After the first day learn curve we used the hell out of it after that. Rather enjoyed it also.
What we did: Empire State Building, Rockerfeller Center Top of the Rock, Times Square day and night, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, 3 hours cruise around Manhattan, Jewish Holocaust Museum,(this is a must if you ever get the chance) Metropolitan Museum, The Sex Museum, The Sopranos tour, went to Wall Street, Ground Zero, Rode the Subway, Bus Tours, a night bus tour to Brooklyn, two Broadway shows “Curtains” and “ Chicago”, walked all over the city, ate dinner at some great restaurants and never had a bad meal all week, finally meet BB and had dinner with him and Gary & Geri on Tuesday, and we were able to meet Jake and Hazel and the Sunlovers Friday evening for dinner before we left town.
A couple of high points of all the tours for me was Ellis Island. I was able to get information on my grandmother who entered the US there in 1921. Got a copy of the certificate of her entry, a copy of the ships manifest, and a photo of the ship to bring home to my mom. See really enjoyed seen those when we gave them to her. Going into the Empire State Building, what a rush, never thought I would get there in my life time, and the Jewish Holocaust Museum, this is a must do, we spent almost 3 hours there. The one thing that I wanted to do and we changed our mind on at the last minute due to the weather was a New York Yankee’s game. At 5:00 PM that evening it was raining back at the Bed and Breakfast that we stayed at and we didn’t want to travel all the way to Yankee Stadium and get rain on so we got tickets to see Curtain instead. Maybe next time.
And yes we survived the steam pipe explosion.
As I have told all of my friends at home, New York is something that everyone should do at least once in their life. We can’t wait for the next time can go there. We have taken many trips and with they exception of our Hedo trips this trip ranks #1 for us.
Joe.
Here are a few picture of our trip.
Denice at the Top of the Rock look towards the Empire State Building.
Denice getting her pciture taken with Vito from The Sopranos. This really made her day.
Denice rubbing the Wall Street Bull's balls. Damn women can't take her any place. ;D ;D
The Satin Dolls( aka: The BADA BING from the Sopranos) You actually get to go into the club watch the girls dance and have a drink, that made my day. ;D ;D ;D
