I know this is old news, but since Joe suggested that we have a Trip Report area, and I agreed with him, I figured I might as well kick it off with some old news. This thread contains the posts that I submitted at DennyP's in April 2005 from Hedo. I left off the responses from other folks; you can go to Denny's and see those posts if you really wanna.
I figure I might as well document my posts here, in case THAT message board goes down in flames some day. Not that I'm PREDICTING or HOPING for that to happen, mind you, but what the fuck, you never know. So here it is. Now it's YOUR TURN.......Jake

Chicago Jake's Blog.....
We got to Hedo yesterday (Saturday). All is fine here. And yes, they DO have bananas! The weather is warm, but kind of overcast.
Air Jamaica didn't cancel our flight, but they didn't fly it themselves, either. We got put onto a "Ryan Air" plane. Lousy food. I guess AJ is subcontracting out some of their routes.
The omelette station has moved. Now they are making them where the carving station used to be.
I turned on the TV in the room for the first time yesterday after checking in. I wanted to see if the Pope was still alive (he was, but not for long).
The Piano bar was ROCKING last night! The piano player is named Danny, and he's pretty good. Plenty of personality, and he knows lots of songs. Arthur still sings "Hedonismville" to get the crowd going. Nobody did "Piece by Piece" though.
That's all the news for now. More breaking stories as they develop. Stay tuned!.....Jake

Yes, the internet is working fine here, second day in a row. We'll see how long it lasts.
Some other new developments: they now keep the clean plates in the dining room upside down! An excellent idea. You don't have to stare at them, trying to guess which ones had the least flies tap-dancing on them lately.
Last night (Sunday) was Karaoke night, which I think is a ch-ch-change. As usual, it was no fun at all. All the smokers congregated out in the courtyard outside the piano bar and chatted.
The resort is pretty empty, maybe because airfares are so high? I don't know. There is plenty of hot water in the showers, but most of it ends up on the bathroom floor.
The new Martin Bar is not as good an idea as I had hoped. For one thing, the Jamaicans just are NO GOOD at shaking the hell out of them to get them cold. And even when they do, they warm up in the heat too damn fast. I've gone back to drinking them on the rocks while I'm here.
That's it for now. Back to the beach!.....Jake

Well, most of your questions (like resort check-in and upgrades) I have no idea. For Charlie, they have a grill for him, and the carving station and French Toast are where he used to be.
Other news: They have Heinz Ketchup now at Robert's grill, in those little McDonald's style packets. The big squirt bottle of Jamaican stuff is gone. There is also a sign tacked up there announcing NO LOBSTER grilling! No doubt as a reaction to last December's rash of stomach problems that felled so many Winter WWW folks.
Chris S. will be glad to know there is a license plate above Delroy's that says TNTAH. It is a Florida plate.
The resort is still quite empty, but not so empty that there is no energy. Last night was Piano Bar night again (strange for a Monday), and it was good for awhile but petered out from lack of attendence. However, a guest named Ron showed up at the nude hot tub around 2 am with a guitar, amp, and neck-mounted harmonica. He serenaded us all for almost an hour, and was great.
Still raining just a bit each day. And the temps are perfect. No problems, mon.
Well, I'm back to the sand. And yes, I meant MARTINI, not martin bar. Sorry about that....Your humble correspondent, Jake

Hi all - a bit more news here.
Immigration Lines... Dave, they were very short last Saturday. The customs line was surprisingly long, but not immigration.
Foliage: still about the same as December. That is to say, very low on shade. I don't think much has grown back at all since Ivan. A high school science teacher who is here (Ishtar) opined that the trees are probably still in their dormant stage since fall.
The food is getting better and better. Last night was all Mexican food, with EXCELLENT shrimp fajitas. Yumm. The tortilla soup was excellent as well.
Last night was PJ night, and for the first time ever, I saw lots of PJ outfits at dinner. That was nice. The disco event was pretty lame, though.
But I've saved the biggest news for last: If you could ch-ch-change ONE THING about Hedo, what would it be? I know, make it free and move it to Cook County. But failing that, what would it be? I'd say keep the nude beach bar open til 5 am. Well, that's what they did! I asked several bartenders, and they all said yes, it's now open til 5 am. None of them seemed too happy about it, but it is a fact. I saw it open last night at 4 am with my own eyes, and still going strong. Certainly helps keep the hot tub jumpin' til all hours.
Speaking of which, I'm short on sleep and must resume a nipples-up position on the beach with my eyes closed and a book on my chest, and gently swaying reggae music coming out of a nearby rock. See you all later......Jake

Hello All -
The guy with the major manhood jewelry (Mr. Ball-Jangles, we call him) is checking out today.
Yesterday, it rained all damn day. There were a few moments of sunlight during breakfast (so no free day), then rain straight through til about 5 pm. A bunch of us sat around a big round table in the dining room, under a skylight, and listened to the raindrops and chatted away while eating and drinking the day away. Then when it stopped, we went straight to the hot tub. We put the late-night nude beach bar through it's paces again.
I didn't go to the repeater's party, but I heard the winner of the free trip had 18 trips. This is number 17 for me! Good thing I didn't waste a good hot tub session trying to win it.
Well, it's sunny as hell today, so I'm not going to miss a drop of this non-liquid sunshine! Back to the chair until Parrot comes by and boots me out......Jake

I don't know about the piano bar check-in. I'll be getting my eviction notice later today and will have first-hand knowledge then.
Today was one of those breakfasts where you spend half of it saying goodbye to people. Tomorrow will be worse, because they'll be saying goodbye to US!
Not much other news. More rain yesterday, but we did have a few hours of sun in the morning. Toga night and the talent show were really lame with the small crowd in the house.
By the by, the Casino is shut down. It was completely empty until yesterday, when a bunch of new slot machines arrived, all wrapped in plastic. I'm sure they'll be installed in a flash with the usual Jamaican alacrity.
This will probably be my last update til I get back to Chicago. Then I'll supply some last-minute data to cap things off. See you all on the other side!......Jake

Those daily reports were neat Jake. Kind of made me feel like was there part of the time.
Hey it's okay to dream.
Joe.
