Okay, all you wisenheimers......
Whenever somebody famous croaks, everyone asks if they were on my list. Well, it's easy to stand aloof and snipe from the sidelines. So now is your chance to put your talent where your mouth is.
Everyone who wants to, give us a list of ten famous people you think will croak in 2008.
You might want to wait until the last minute, so as not to give away any secrets to other competitors. But it has to be posted before January 1, 2008 begins. Let's say GMT, just to make it fair.
If you are too chickenshitted to post your own list, I will dismiss any snide questioning about MY list out of hand.
Bring it on, death merchants!.......Jake
ADDED MUCH LATER:
Well, when I started this thread, I really didn't expect so much participation. But since we got it, we better have a scoring method.
Let's use the same method they use at stiffs.com: the winner is the one with the most hits (i.e., "stiffs") on their list at the end of the year. Points are only used to break ties, with 10 points for the first name on your list, nine for the next, etc., down to one point for the last name.
Oh yeah, I'm also going to sticky this thread, so you can easily check your progress.
Note: DO NOT go editing your submission, such as to annotate your list with stiffs that have croaked. That will make it look like you might have added them in later! Leave them with no modification dates, unless it is from 2007.

Well, it's easy to stand aloof and snipe from the sidelines. Thank you. It's always nice to be recognized for one's greatest talents.

Walter Cronkite immediately comes to mind. Let me think about the others.

I don't like this contest but....I'll speculate. The problem is I don't like thinking of people dying. I like everyone on Joe's list but still, they are possible for natures call. To make it easy on myself I'll start with a communist thorn in the US of A's ass. I'd rather pick stocks or possible Hedo dates. Fidel Castro.

Joey, Bob Barker? Isn't he a sprightly healthy guy? and maybe he won't be taken so quickly for standing up for animals so strongly, he just retired to.

Bob Barker just retired. Retiring is bad for your health. It either signals that you are sick and know it, or else you are healthy but have lost your will to live. I'd say he's a good bet.

The means he fucking dropped dead. Age don't mean shit but the odds are against Mr. Barker I just thought of a bunch of old celebrities and this is what I came up with. Bob, good pick. I didn't think about Walter Cronkite. Hell he's old than dirt. Joe. Edited to add. When Jerry Orbach left Law and Order no one knew he was sick. Poor bastard was dead 6 months later.

OK, I had to toss in my choices. My initial list had three names that Joe mentioned, so I swapped out 2, but I could not replace Billy Graham.. he will get a call home this year. I have also included a few 'wild cards', names that you would probably not expect by just looking at age/health... so here we go (and if one of them dies before 1/1/08, I am willing to go 9 for 9)
Albert Hofmann (creator of LSD) Billy Graham Brittany Spears Ernest Borgnine George H W Bush Hugh Hefner Karl Malden (hell, he's looked dead for decades) Muhammad Ali Nelson Mandela Osama bin Laden
My original list included Jack Klugman and Kirk Douglas, and Castro is a strong candidate too. However I feel that I have a strong list without them. Osama will miraculously be found in September, and Brittany is on a death spiral, but if she does get through '08 she should be good for a while. Bush Sr is my real wild card, I dont wish him ill, and he seems fit, but he has far outlived his father, and is closing in on his mothers longevity.

Brittany is on a death spiral, but if she does get through '08 she should be good for a while I think Britney will pull through and get herself straightened out... at least I hope for the sake of her kids she does. Now Britain's Amy Winehouse is another matter. I can't see her making it past Easter on her current form. Simon

I'm going with the old and/or infirm:
Jesse Helms -- DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!!!! Billy Graham Richard Kiel Kirk Douglas Paul Harvey Chuck Berry Fidel Castro "Captain Tony" Terracino (sorry Hank!)
One with a price on his head: Moqtada al sadr
And one wild card: John Goodman

I read the title of the thread and thought it was a contest about which of US would pop our clogs this year. Me, too. Seems like a game that's much more fun to me. well, in that case, I think that given DrBob is now on the Cayman Island Mafia hit list... If so, then maybe we'll finally have to settle on one of those epitaphs we've been saving up all this time. OTOH, instead of dying, he might just get raped by a Jamaican.

If you were thinking of putting Ike Turner on your list, I'd advise against it. He's rollin' down the river (the River Styx, that is) right now.
