Is there a way to upload an avatar from a source other than a URL? What if I want to use a piece of clipart or a photo that are on my home computer?

Hazel,
Just dump it on to your website and link it from there.
Happy New Year!

No PhD here...
But I have been known to play doctor occasionally!
Hope all is well with you in the New Year. Haven's seen or heard much from you lately.
Will see you in Philly in a few weeks though.

As a public service to all, anyone that wants to can e-mail me their picture and I will send them back a link to my website so that they can customize their Avatar... Now I want to know why Jake's is bigger than everyone else's? Is it the Italian in him? ;D ;D

Now I want to know why Jake's is bigger than everyone else's? Is it the Italian in him? ;D ;D Yeeaahhh, Baby! Ooooh, Lucky Me!
But seriously, I asked myself the same question when my avatar kept looking distorted after several attempts to upload properly.
As Jake explained to me the software here seems to want to display all avatars in a "square" but if the image you're uploading is a different configuration (rectangle, oval, blah blah blah) it will compress your image to fit a square.
You can compensate for this minor annoyance by adjusting the custom avatar height and width to a measurement in approximate proportion to the original image.
So, I did just that. I changed the the height and width of the avatar to an approximate 3:4 proportion and ... Voila! It worked! I'm a rectangle instead of a square now. [/b]

Tech question.
Why does my avatar red X until I visit the page it is on and come back (obviously putting it in my history)? Does everbody else just get the red X or just me?

Yours always looks fine to me, Harry. Probably a browser issue. You might try downloading Mozilla Firefox (it's free) which is what I use, never a problem.......Jake

You...you...you mean leave Explorer? I just might give it a try.... BTW, Hazelita's avatar comes up as a Red X to me and when I tried to go to it to put it into my history, I got the 'ol 404 message.

I tried, Bob, but it didn't work. Maybe you have to do it yourself. Click on your own profile, then click on "Modify" at the top of the page, then scroll down to the "Custom Avatar Width" and "Custom Avatar Hight" and type in 100 for each of them.
It MIGHT work, but who knows?......Jake

America wants to trash the New Deal.....let's give'em what they want....too many people are clothed, housed and fed for the apocolypse to happen anyway....bring on the second coming. A&I, thanks for the backup rec.. I probably will....butt presently I'm is scared.............

Here's another idea: If you have a Yahoo profile (they're free and easy to acquire, if you don't), you can upload a photo there, and link to it for your avatar.....Jake
