We fly that route with British Airways a couple of times a year and what is disturbing is that this information about the passenger did not come to light until the plane was already in the air. It was the same with the Cat Stevens incident. Check-in for international flights is 2 hours ahead of departure time, surely the computer check on the passenger list should be run before departure once the desk is closed.

I can only assume that it was discovered SOON after take-off.... No jet would carry enough fuel to turn around and return to London after flying all the way across.....Jake

That's a reasonable assumption Jake, and I can understand BA not wanting to cross the Atlantic in the knowledge that they had a terrorist suspect on-board. My concern though is that a suspected terrorist on the passenger list must be considered a threat to the plane in flight, as BA clearly did, and those 2 hours would seem to provide plenty of time to ensure that the security checks were made before that passenger could become a threat.
