Okay, yesterday the UK voted to leave the European Union. That's cool; it's their country, and they deserve to do what they want. I happen to agree with them. Not that my opinion matters a hill of beans, but I think they made the right choice.
However.... EVERYONE that I know on Social Media who actually live in the UK see this as an UNMITIGATED DISASTER!!!! I just don't get it. If any of you UK citizens are reading this, PLEASE explain to me why this was a bad decision. I am not trying to be snarky. I really want to know what I am missing in thinking this was the obvious choice. Thanks for helping me out!!

I did get an answer to this question on Facebook. The answer consisted of the following reasons why many Brits believe it was a bad move:
As a member of the EU we are part of the largest trading bloc in the world, trading freely with our fellow members without tariffs, and benefiting from trade deals negotiated with other countries.
We enjoy freedom of movement within the EU meaning not only can we travel between member states without restrictions or even having to show our passports we are also free to live and work in any EU country without having to get a visa.
We also enjoy free healthcare in each other's countries and should we fall on hard times can claim benefits.
The EU is responsible for ensuing that EU citizens are protected by some of the best employment laws anywhere in the world and invests heavily in the UK through subsidies and grants to farmers, fishermen and other businesses.
I suppose those are nice things to have, and I can see why some people would value them highly. To me, they are NOT worth giving up national sovereignty, but I suppose that is a matter of opinion that everyone has to decide for themselves. Thanks for the candid answer to my question!
(I am not giving the name of the poster, as he/she did not give me permission to quote him/her, but they are free to claim responsibility here if they wish. Otherwise, I will let these heartfelt words (that I completely disagree with) speak for themselves)

Hey...is this place still alive? Barely. I try to check in here every few days, but I have spent much of the month of October in the hospital and have let things slide a bit.
