The government is allegedly "shut down." Yeah, right. I'd be surprised if as much as 10% of it is actually shut down. And they are probably spending more on keeping it shut down than they are saving on not running it.
But my question today is: who is really affected by this? Obviously, government employees are affected. Bur are any recipients of government services really suffering? I know I'm not. I don't use any government services on a daily basis. I'd be curious if anyone is. Please, enlighten me!

It will be interesting to see where things stand when I do go back to work... This couldn't have come at a worse time for the agencies that I support... FSA does farm loans and they start a new year on Oct. 1 being able to offer new loans... Lots of farmers wanting to make improvements depend on the low interest loans. NRCS is almost strictly conservation and they are the only thing that really stands between this area of the country and another Dust Bowl... yes they pay people to NOT plant crops, BUT they keep enough of the native grasses in place to keep this whole part of the country from blowing away in the wind.
Don't get me wrong, I HATE farm subsidies, BUT it is a road we went down MANY MANY years ago and we are currently keeping food prices artificially low... The only way to get off of them at this point would be to taper down over the course of about 20 years as to not shock the system so bad that we see $20 a gallon milk or a $15 loaf of bread. Unfortunately with our current political system we can't get something in place that would end these programs in a responsible manner over 20 years or so, because every 4-8 years you get a new group of assholes filling seats in DC and they don't want to "hurt the farmers".
Ronald Reagan once said "The closest thing to eternal life is a gov't program"... he was absolutely correct.
