We have another future king in the land of Simon.

Given how long the royals live over there, this new one might ascend to the throne seventy or eighty years after we are all toast.

But we are still FREE to care if we choose to. Just like we are free to care who Kim Kardashian is fucking or who Lindsey Lohan is flashing. But we don't HAVE to if we don't want to. That is freedom.

Exactly Jake. If people outside the UK are celebrating the royal birth that's their choice.
Belgium got itself a new king the other day after the last one abdicated. Anyone know that? I didn't until I chanced upon something online, in fact I didn't even know Belgium had a monarchy. The British Royal family is different though. Prince Harry only has to fart and it's a global news story. The reason, I believe, is that we have kept all the royal pomp, ceremony and traditions and use it to our advantage. Except for people who are against the monarchy, this is part of what gives us our cultural identity and a living link to our history, and is no different to your celebrations of Thanksgiving, Independence Day, your allegiance to your flag etc which makes you Americans who you are. The royal family are only figureheads anyway, figureheads who serve as ambassadors for our nation, and what they represent fascinates some people and makes the UK an attractive tourist destination. In fact the royal baby's global coverage has been a huge free advert for the UK and will boost tourist pounds spent here over the coming months.
So I don't really see the relevance of linking this to something that happened over 200 years ago in our shared history. Are we not allies now? If we're going to use this kind of logic then we wouldn't buy German or Japanese cars after losing so many American and British lives fighting those countries in two world wars, Brits wouldn't buy French cars because they invaded and conquered us in 1066, young Australians wouldn't come to the UK in their droves as Australia was once our penal colony and many of them will be descended from people we deported, Jamaicans wouldn't have settled in the UK in the 1960s as it was us who look their ancestors to Jamaica as slaves in the first place....

To hell with all this discussion about the royal birth. I am much more concerned when I just read that British PM Cameron announced that the U.K.'s 4 largest Internet service providers will automatically block access to porn sites for both new and existing users, unless the users specifically request that the filters be disabled.
Come on Simon, you have got to recruit Bill Nighy to do a pro porn PSA. I think the possibilities are endless.

Cameron tried to slip that one under the radar whilst the news media were going over the top with their coverage of events in the royal vagina.
It's an 'opt in' law apparently, so if you want to have access to 'adult content' you will have to contact your service provider. Don't start me off about living in a nanny state!!

Speaking of opting in has there been a decision made yet whether there is to be a royal circumcision?

William and Kate are very circumspect about the subject.
