The topic of Same-Sex Marriage is all over the news (and more importantly, all over Facebook), but we haven't batted it around here yet. I think it's time we remedy that lack!
What do all of youse guys think? An abomination against goodness and decency? Or an idea whose time has come? Or something else entirely? (Hint: my opinion is in the third category)

I am in favor of it. The religious arguments are not applicable IMO. Government does not do religious marriages. The various religions can either participate or not. This is about legal rights, tax status, rights of survivorship, etc. Gays should be treated the same.

I have a simple solution to end all the butthurt on both sides of the issue...
The government no longer issues "marriage" licenses instead they issue civil unions to ALL couples, both hetero and homo.
If you then want a marriage, you then go to a church of your choice and get one. Marriage is a RELIGIOUS tenant, why is the government involved? If two people want to form a civil partnership that is well within their rights... what it is called should be up to the church.

I don't recall the clause in the Constitution that authorizes the Federal Government to have a say in marriages, one way or the other. I say leave it to the several states, or just keep government out of it entirely and leave it to the various churches.

The time has come for it. The churches can stick their bullshit up their ass. The Feds need to make a decision so that people can get SS benefits and whatever other benefits just as in a so call normal marriage.

I don't recall the clause in the Constitution that authorizes the Federal Government to have a say in marriages, one way or the other. There is no clause that says different races can't marry, but that was certainly the law for many years. Where did that one come from? Why do we not leave that issue to the states today? What is different with Gays vis-a-vis races??

I don't have a problem leaving that to the states too. Power to the people!

We have had it for a few years now in the UK, though of course it is a legal marriage and not a religious one as the Church of England is against it. In fact I know a married lesbian couple who are now divorcing, and having to go through the same process as a straight couple, after one left the other after twelve years and has come back to the light and is now with a guy.
