Yeah, fortunately we are on the warm side of Lake Superior. Trade off for warmth is snow. Lucky us we only got a few inches, cold air cannot hold as much moisture as warm air. Hibbing Minnesota was sunny and -21 for a high yesterday (no idea what their wind chill was)
Still, was out in the dark at 6am on the tractor clearing the driveway again for the second morning in a row.
Like I said on FB, over all -6 isnt too bad when you have the wind and snow to distract you from the temperature.

People really do adapt to their conditions. 100 degrees with a little south breeze and we are out on the deck having dinner. I have been in the minus 20s once in some crazy weather in Winter Park, Colorado. Not my cup of tea for the temperature or the altitude. I am guessing that -8 is just another day in the hood for you guys.

Its been a few years since weve have daytime temps this low (can get a lot colder on a calm clear night, radiative cooling can drop the bottom out of the thermometer), but yeah, we take it in stride and it ends up being just another day. For my wife, if it gets over 80 outside she has the wiindows locked down and heads to the basement with the AC cranked full.

Only real bothersome part of this cold is small things that happen... the alternator light on the tractor flickers on because the belt is no longer tight (engine has shrunk), and the flat tire indicator on the car comes on because they were filled at a much warmer temperature (40).

It hit 80 in Austin today. Took my son's Kawaksaki 650 dirt bike out for a spin.

We finally hit double digits Fahrenheit here for the first time in several days. The Global Warming Zealots are nowhere in sight.

Yes, you indicated that you were agnostic on the matter... in my mind that was so astounding that it stuck as being an acceptance. I agree. That's why I'm agnostic on the topic. But I am suspicious of ulterior motives on the part of the True Believers, who tend to be liberals, socialists, communists, and other misfits.

I think my position was pretty clear. But you, in your typical liberal fashion, preferred to remember what you wanted rather than the facts.

Currently, in Southern Maryland it is 25 with light snow. We have been below freezing most of the week and the creek where we are docked is starting to ice over. Gary had to shovel off 4 inches of snow from the docks and aft deck on Thursday.

Alice - did youse guys sell your house and commence to living on the new boat full time, Quincy style? Or do you still have the homestead that Hazelita and I visited?

Jake, we still have the house. Monica is living there. We plan on keeping it for a few years and maybe renting it when (if) she moves. We have to pull the boat this spring for some modifications we will be doing along with some other work so we will be back at the house for a couple weeks then. Let us know when would be a good time for a tour of the Chesapeake Bay.

I think my position was pretty clear. But you, in your typical liberal fashion, preferred to remember what you wanted rather than the facts. Yes, your position WAS pretty clear, you say you are "agnostic" defined as "A person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena" and YES I acknowledged that fact in my post above when I verified... so what is your beef?
|
|
|
Post by Chicago Jake on Jan 28, 2013 10:10:33 GMT -6
My beef is that I said one thing (being agnostic = not believing one way or the other) and you accused me of quite another (being a True Believer). Yes, you updated your views when I corrected you. But how many OTHER things about me (and the rest of the world) do you have wrong in your mind because you prefer to believe what you WANT to believe rather than what the facts are?

Jake, the fact that I remember one post from almost a year ago should be amazing enough.
No I do not have perfect memory.. do you?

I put myself in the agnostic column also. At present, I would lean toward the sun activity theory (seeing that Mars is heating up too without any SUVs) but not enough is known. I tend to be at least skeptical of those politicians and others who are iron clad sure but who stand to make big money or those whose cushy jobs would dry up if they even questioned Greenhouse Gas Theory. That doesn't make it not true but it taints the opinions of those with a personal dog in the fight.
