As soon as this sale was announced some cable companies -- including Time Warner -- dropped the channel. Good.

From what I have heard, Gore screwed Al Jazeera. They paid a LOT more than what it was worth, and its will be worth a LOT less than it was before this is all over. BRAVO American capitalism.

I don't know that you don't really have some inside dope on this, but I would be skeptical if I were you. The only way that Time Warner has kept the channel up until now, is that Al Gore had the clout to sic the regulatory dogs on them at their license renewals if they dropped it. (rent seeking I believe is the economic term) I don't pretend that this sort of shakedown favors an ideology either, but pardon me if I pass on the BRAVO.

From listening to the talk on Sirius/XM, which broadcasts some of Current's shows (well, actually Current stuck a video camera in the radio booth of some of the show that are part of the Sirius/XM network), VERY cheap production costs.
The $100M is Gore's share of the sale. Total sale was in the $400-$500M range... for something that exists only on paper anymore.
I would call that a very capable capitalist, getting AJ to buy into essentially nothing means Gore got some big bucks, for a second rate cable channel that was going nowhere.

I don't know either way with any authority, but would not assume, that Al-Jazeera is a naive bunch who happens to have a big checkbook. Al Gore has a lot of influence and and if you can peddle it at the old capital gain rate of 15%, that is more advantagious than paying over 50% at the self employed top rate. Then again, I work with taxes constantly and carpenters sometime tend to think everything is a nail.

Al climate warming guru Gore has vilified the oil industry and all who profit from that dirty business for years but has no trouble selling them a legal licensed vehicle to enter every cable ready household in America for that price. The fact the Current only has 22,000 active viewers’ means nothing. Clearly AJ overpaid but they now have the legal and financial means to market this channel boosting subscribers and can spend millions presenting their truth about oil, Islam and the evils of America.

News Corporation aka Rupert Murdoch & family is the parent of Fox and controlling stockholder. A Saudi prince holds 7% of News Corporation. I guess you think he has had tremendous influence on Fox. No? Wonder why he didn't block the millions Fox have contributed to the Republican Party? You’d think he would at least get O’Reilly fired. Me thinks one of the richest men in the world knows how to make money and invests it in winners. He also owns over $4billion in Citibank stock.

Just sayin... oil money is oil money and an Islamic Owner is Islamic Owner...No? Well no. Al Jazeera a news organization and single investor are not the same. Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Menlo College in California in 1979. He then received a Master's degree in Social Science with honors from Syracuse University in 1985. He is invested in the Western culture and donated to many humanitarian causes. BTW he does not have a 'controling' interest in News Corporation and holds a postion of 4th in ownership. Al Jazeera is an organization whose track record is very unfriendly to this here United States.

Yep, Al Jazeera is the same company that shows live beheadings of American citizens on TV....soon coming to a channel near you I'm not defending Al Jazeera, but this is incorrect and was in fact a false allegation made by Fox news on the day that they launched their English language service.

Just tuned to it on Dish and they had a story about the big sink hole sucking up the trees. Will have to tune in when they have something interesting to watch. I used to regularly look at their web site to see what they were doing so kinda interesting to see what they will have on TV.
