Welcome, boys and ghouls! It's that most wonderful time of the year again: Dead Pool Time! Time to once again leap feet first into an all-new, all-singing, all-dancing, all-exciting 2013 Extravaganza of Expiration! The rules will once again be the same as they have been: 1. Compile your list of the ten celebs that you think are most likely to croak in the upcoming calendar year. 2. Post them in this thread. 3. Edit it all you like as your hunches ch-ch-change, but not after Midnight on December 31. At that point, the thread gets locked. 4. Whoever gets the most stiffs by the end of the year, wins. What do you win, you ask? Well, nothing, actually. After all, what did you wager? Exactly: nothing! Tie-breaker rule: Be sure to sequence your list so your most likely stiffs are at the top. In case of a tie in terms of number of stiffs on a list, they will be assigned points based on position. Your #1 position stiff is worth ten points, #2 worth nine points, etc. But this is ONLY used to break ties. More stiffs always beats fewer stiffs. Hopefully, we can prevail upon Gordon to once again create his excellent Master Compilation thread that we can use to discuss progress (if that word applies - I do not think it means what you think it means) throughout the year. Good luck to everyone. And remember: If you build it, they will die!!........Jake

What else is there to do on New Year's day besides watching the Twilight Zone marathon. Who knows, this year if I stay out of the scotch deep enough into the whole process, I might just remember to includes everyone on the first try.

I figured I would see how the end of the world played out before I spent money on New Year's tickets.

Decidedly NOT my list for the year.. I have ethical issues with putting the oldest living people into play in this little sport. But I had to look these up, because the oldest, and then the new oldest both wen in the past couple weeks.
From Wiki
Rank Name Sex Birth date Age as of 20 December 2012 Place of residence 1 Jiroemon Kimura M 19 April 1897 115 years, 245 days Japan 2 Koto Okubo F 24 December 1897 114 years, 362 days Japan 3 Misawo Okawa F 5 March 1898 114 years, 290 days Japan 4 Mamie Rearden F 7 September 1898 114 years, 104 days United States 5 Hatsue Ono F 31 October 1898 114 years, 50 days Japan 6 Maria Redaelli-Granoli F 3 April 1899 113 years, 261 days Italy 7 Elsie Thompson F 5 April 1899 113 years, 259 days United States 8 Jeralean Talley F 23 May 1899 113 years, 211 days United States 9 Susannah Mushatt Jones F 6 July 1899 113 years, 167 days United States 10 Bernice Madigan F 24 July 1899 113 years, 149 days United States
What strikes me most is that it looks like we are down to the final few born in the 19th century.

Ive been holding off on that account too. Of course you can always ch-ch-change it before midnight (Central Time I presume). Biggest risk is that someone drops in those late hours of New Year's eve catching everyone off partying (or sleeping)

Usually they are looking for the first person born, this year it could be for the first person die.
I think we should also have the first person to die in the New Year on the contest and be worth an extra 10 points. I say George H.W. Bush

Bush, Thatcher and Mandela may well scrape their way out of this year but they are still good bets for 2013.

This has been a tough one. A lot of potential candidates and many perennial listers whose time seems to be about up. Getting the list down to 10 has taken a lot of work. Also been balancing the crowd favorites versus the "wild cards", risk versus rewards calculus in action.
Edited: 11:00pm ET After reading the news reports of the last couple hours, I am dumping John Glenn, and putting Hugo Chavez to the top of the list and moving everyone else down a notch. NOW the bastard better not die in the next couple hours or I will be pissed
1. Hugo Chavez 2. Zsa Zsa Gabor 3. Billy Graham 4. Nancy Reagan 5. HW Bush 6. David Rockefeller 7. Margaret Thatcher
7. John Glenn 8. Robert Dole 9. Prince Philip (Edited: Duke of Edinburgh) 10. Lindsey Lohan (she turns 27 this year.. the next Amy Winehouse)
It was tough not putting Nelson Mandela on the list, along with Hugo Chavez, Ronnie Biggs, Van Cliburn and perennial favorite Fidel. I may kick myself for leaving them off in favor of some others, but hey thats part of the process... innit.
Jake: An idea for next year.. a "wild card" pick, someone who has to be less than 40 years old and worth extra points if they drop.
