Vast hordes of folks from all over the world are descending on Austin this weekend for the first Formula 1 race in the US since 2007 and the first American F1 race on a proper track since Watkins Glen in the 1980s. The track builders and race promoters really went out on a limb with this considering the economy. This has been predicted to be the biggest crowd to ever hit Austin. Hotels are booked from San Antonio to Waco. The events will be November 16-18 with the big race on Sunday. It will be broadcast on the Speed Channel.

When I was 23, I pissed away a lot of my savings going to the 1978 Monaco Grand Prix with my friend and his dad. We went with the Ferrari Club of North America and it included a tour of northern Italy, part of France, and a tour of the Ferrari factory meeting with Enzo Ferrari. Grace Kelly and her husband drove around the course of the race. We were sittin maybe 30 feet from the cars and had to wear ear cups to lessen the noise. I hooked up with two beautiful women, one French and one Italian. Life is good when you are 23.
