The "Dallas" thread got me to thinking: if a TV show (or a movie, for that matter) is set in your own home town/city/county/neighborhood, does that tend to make you like it more, less, or neither?
I'll admit that any show set in Chicago I am pre-disposed to like a lot, even if it sucks. Some have sucked, which pissed me off, some have been great, which have made me very happy, and some have been mediocre, which I've still enjoyed.
So.... what do Youse guys think? And what are specific examples of shows set in your "home" area?

I love 30 Rock for many reasons and being based in NY is one of them. Occasionally it has a joke that is written just for New Yorkers.
One episode in particular was aimed at the relative sleepy nature of the NY suburbs which was extremely funny and accurate.
One of my favorite lines waa "what happens in Croton on Hudson stays in Croton on Hudson" when the show characters were forced to go there for a reunion.
Croton has a large train station, a small sandy beach, a few auto repair shops and catering halls.
Croton is very close to me as the crow flys.

OUCH, what an exclusionary topic ;D We have two television series set in my area first of was "Finland Calling". I believe this is alive only in syndication anymore. This BTW was the longest running Finnish Language show in the US!! (you guys think I can just make this stuff up dont ya)Second is a hunting and fishing show thats been around for about 30 years called "Discovering". Next week Buck Lavasser "looks at a great new product that makes starting a campfire a lot easier…and he also takes you for a ride on a new ATV trail." SO slamming those two down on you all, think you can top that baby?

Never was a big fan of "Dallas", "Walker, Texas Ranger", etc. We do watch "Austin City Limits" sometime depending on the performer but would watch the same if it were broadcast from Nashville or LA. The show we watch most regularly is "Jimmy Kimmel Live" from California.

Most of the shows I like are set in of NYC. I really don't care where they are set at, if I like it I watch it, if I don't I won't.
The only show that I like I really like set in San Francisco was Streets of San Francisco. Last season FOX had Alcatraz and I liked that, but the fuck wads cancelled it.

The follow up question to Jakes would be "For what series does the location REALLY matter to the story?" Obviously L&O could have been set in just about any large city in the nation, but it wouldnt have been the same show if the city wasnt NY. Dallas OTOH, could have been set pretty much anywhere, adjusting the industry to the locale. CSI has been set in a variety of major cities and is essentially the same show with different backdrops.

Can't vote no on this one... "Walking Dead" Baby!
... another example of the need for proper punctuation, cause Walking Dead Baby would be totally different TV show.
