Another item in my long list of peeves: when people misuse the terms CD and Album.
Any collection of songs (or other things, like photographs) that are intended to go together constitutes an album.
from "WordNet (r) 2.0" album n 1: one or more recordings issued together; originally released on 12-inch phonograph records (usually with attractive record covers) and later on cassette audio tape and compact disc [syn: record album]
You can buy a CD and say "I just bought Kevin Federline's new CD" and that isn't wrong, but it is just as accurate to say "I just bought Kevin Federline's new album" because it IS a collection of recordings issued together.
I believe that "album" should be the preferred term, because the CD medium isn't always used. It might be on vinyl LP, might be on cassette, might be on Super Audio CD, might be on DVD, or might be downloaded directly to your mp3 player or hard drive.
Further evidence: the Grammy Awards recognize a "record of the year" and an "album of the year", never a "CD of the year."
Okay, that's my rant for today. What say you? (besides "who cares?" or "get a life, dude")........Jake

...What say you? (besides "who cares?" or "get a life, dude")... Well, besides those, nothing ;D Actually, on the topic of vinyl LPs vs CDs, a while ago we went to a party at a "friends of friends'" house, and these guys had a massive collection of classic rock vinyl albums. We had a great time doing what plenty of people our age and younger did in the 70's, and sat around their living room picking records out of their collection to listen to individual songs. We had a great time actually listening to the music, music from an age where some thought and intelligence actually went into its creation. Music listening habits have definitely changed over the years.

It might be "just as accurate" but i don't think it would be as precise. when someone says "I just bought Kevin Federline's new CD" not only are they telling you the album that they purchased, but the medium they purchased as well. So in thise case, I do not think i agree with you whole heartedly. Zilla (who is trying to live up to her "delightfully argumentative" status)

I was going thing of saying album when I start my KORN thread, but I figured one of you knot heads would say' Album you, are you stuck in the 70's?". So I thought I would say CD to be more modern, but it upset Jake. But I did make a CD for the Mustang, Pickup, Lexus and one for my Ford Tractor ( yeah it has a CD player in it). Also downloaded it my to IPOD. Oh yeah Jake this should make you feel good. At the I Tunes Store when you download, they call it an ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still buy my albums the old fashioned way: At the used record store. But I always get them on CD format because a used LP is probably gonna be scratched all to hell!.......Jake (who recently aquired a used copy of an old college favorite, Head East's "Flat As A Pancake")

Zilla (who is trying to live up to her "delightfully argumentative" status) I see your point, Zilla, but I'm not sure I agree with it. You seem to be saying (correct me if I'm wrong) that all CDs are albums, but not all albums are CDs, so therefore it is more precise to call it a CD when it really is a CD. If that is not what you are saying, then I apologize. Anyway, that is what I disagree with. NOT all CDs are albums. Some are data, some are software, some are videos, etc. SOME CDs are albums, and some albums are CDs, but neither is a subset of the other. On the other hand, the whole things really isn't all that important. And even if it was, I don't expect to ch-ch-change the world. I'll be happy just to eliminate "I could care less" in my life time.......Jake

I heard the DJ (Jeff Blazy) on my local rock station(101.7 the fox KXFS) this morning say he downloaded a CD over the weekend. I almost called him to tell him that a guy from Chicago says he is wrong to say that. ;D ;D ;D ;D

You should have. There is no way an entire disc is going to download through his internet connection, no matter how broad the band is.......Jake
