You have to appreciate a guy who will go to extreme lengths and spend the bucks (ok, quid) to satisfy his fantasy. Obviously he knew he could never actually bed Elle McPherson, but why not go for the next best thing...
Falkirk farmer pays record price for sheep
Frankly I dont see the resemblance, well.. maybe if I squint my eyes just the right way
The world’s most expensive ewe has been sold to a Falkirk farmer.
Alasdair Beaton paid £33,600 for the Texel sheep at Carlisle market on Friday – breaking the previous world record of £25,200.
The businessman from Slamannan bought the pregnant pedigree sheep to add to his flock at Wester Crosshill Farm, shocking wife Linda when he disclosed just how much he’d spent on the animal he has named Elle, after the supermodel Elle McPherson.
Alasdair (55), who also owns an engineering company, has been breeding Texels for 15 years. He said: “I’ve bought some expensive sheep before but this is by far the dearest – the wife nearly killed me when I told her how much I’d spent.
“With Texels you look out for certain characteristics that make them good breeders and this one has everything.”
Texel sheep are renowned for their lean meat but Elle won’t be heading to the slaughterhouse anytime soon and instead will hopefully produce future record-breaking lambs.
John Yates from the Texel Sheep Society said the record price was good news for the breed.
He added: “This is a phenomenal amount for a ewe, we often see these kind of prices for tups that can produce far more offspring but this certainly smashes the record.”
The most expensive sheep in history is Deveronvale Perfection, a male tup sold in 2009 to an Aberdeenshire farmer for £231,000.
