This message board sucks.
It used to be fun and vibrant, full of interesting people and diverse viewpoints. But now it is just the same half dozen wankers bandying about the same lame cliches over and over. It's pathetic!!
Should I delete this board in order to end the embarrassment that it sheds onto all of us? You can get your jollies at Facebook, after all. At least there, you have a million other morons to diffuse how stupid you look on your own.
Or should I leave it up and running for the fun, enjoyment, and sense of individuality that we few remaining stalwarts continue to enjoy?
Note that this poll is non-binding on the part of management.

Is it that bad?
Like anything else in life there's better times than others but it seems to be a stable place for a long time. I'm glad to see people (the few that we are) log-in.
I enjoy what they have to say and at least when they log-in, I know that they are okay. I wish I could post more but I don't have the time, that's why I'm not on Facebook.
What exactly do you think the site is missing Jake? Most of you guys are knowledgeable about politics and are good debaters so I thought that was a good thing going on here.
Did people drop out because it's mostly a political forum? Has Facebook taken people away? I'm not so sure.

I don't like Facebook. Yeah a few people got their feathers ruffled in the political threads but all in all I still like it.
Edited to add: If you do pull the plug give us a 30 day warning so that we may collect some email address to stay in touch with some people.

Edited to add: If you do pull the plug give us a 30 day warning so that we may collect some email address to stay in touch with some people. I'd want a 30-day notice, too, but not to collect e - mail addresses -- people who want to keep in touch with me already know how to do that, so fuck everyone else. The reason *I'd* like the notice is so I can wreak some final havoc before The End. BTW, if you *do* decide to Kevorkianize this here very fine message board, it would be a funny idea to make the final day 12/21. Just sayin' ...

Bad night Jake? No need to slit the collective TNMC throat, do what dozens of other self-respecting logins have done, delete the bookmark and walk away. Abandonment is just as honorable as infanticide.
Edited: Besides, your Deadpool list wasnt THAT bad

Jake, if you do pull the plug, before you do so, you should let us rats know how we did in your "social experiment", as I believe you called it at the beginning.
The full treatise with supporting data documentation or publication reference should suffice.

I would be very sad to see this board deleted. I have made a number of good friends here over the past seven years, meeting many of those friends in 'real life' with a couple of others I still hope to get together with. I hope these will all be friendships for life.
Not only that, but during those months six years ago that my ex wife created mayhem in my life, with her drinking preventing me from being able to leave the house to go into work in my own business let alone lead any kind of normal life, this board and the online company of my friends was my only escape from the madness that my world had become. Then, in the weeks and months after she abandoned the children and I in the most appalling way, leaving me battered and broken, it was the private messages and emails and overwhelming support I received from my friends here that carried me through those dark days. You all quite literally saved my life.
As much as I love Facebook it is not the same. This is a place where we laugh, joke, debate and express thoughts and say things what we might not want to share with the rest of our family and friends on Facebook. This is our virtual water-cooler, where we have our in jokes and references that only we get, and I know from losing it for a year once it will leave a big empty space in my life. I didn't like that year very much and I don't want to feel like that again, nor do I want the friendships I have here diluted by Facebook or allowed to drift apart because we are not hanging out here together anymore.
Jake, if you do decide to can it could you please instead make one of us an admin to replace you so that we can carry it on? Or give us enough warning to set up a new board and regroup.

Simon, it speaks volumes what type of hell you were going through, that this message board of all places was your escape from madness!
Never fear, anyone. I have no plans to dump it. It requires no upkeep on my part, doesn't cost a dime, and is completely maintenance-free. Well, except for the squabulator. At worst, I could just forget about it and let it go on spinning on its own like a plate on top of a pole on the Ed Sullivan show.
I just wondered if anyone felt that it had outlived its usefulness and become an embarrassment to us all. I'm glad to see that nobody appears to feel that way. Or if they do, they're already gone!

What about the £30 per month direct debit to your bank account you made me set up seven years ago? Some, like Wareagle, went down in a blaze of glory. Others, Like HB, just quietly slipped away. Of all the departures though I think Lou went to the most extreme lengths to get away from us. But after over six years now I think he's made his point. Come on bud, it's time to stop being dead!

I think Simon should be made the board Admin and his first act as board Admin should be to delete the board.

Simon could have written my reply for me. This board served me well at a time when I needed it. And if it disappeared there would certainly be a void.
If it eventually dies a slow death I would like to watch that too. The board has had ups and downs. And it is certainly not as vibrant as it once was. But the evolution of social media intrigues me greatly. I love to watch board behaviors. And watching the life of a board is sort of like watching the birth of a star as it shoots across the sky.
And at the end of the day where the hell else can I go to talk intelligently about meat balls or Harvey Korman?

FYI ... I'm on another message board (antique cars) but I rarely post. It has thousands of members and the harassment between people amazes me. The administrators have full time jobs deleting and moving threads.

Or, at the very least, give me the 100% Warning Level. Sorry, but warning levels are asymptotic. You can approach 100%, but you can never completely reach it. But don't let me discourage you from trying!

I vote for keeping it. The board reminds me of a group of drinking buddies. They argue, they tell filthy stories, they talk about their ups and downs. Some show up at the bar more often than others. All in all a good thing.
