My dad and I met her in the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans around 1972. She was cool and gave me an autograph. She wasn't nearly as loud and brassy as her stage persona.

He died of a broken heart, after NASA stripped him of his first-man-on-the-moon title for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Instead of burying him, they should do the NASA version of a Viking. Funeral and eject him into space.

Hate to hear it. Cliburn is a decent guy. (Another fine product of Kilgore High School)

I remember my sister was crazy over Cliburn. I still have the albums she bought of his back then.
We were not wealthy by any means but albums and 45's were always on at our house. My mom saved for a Webcor 'Stereo' player and she'd play our albums almost shaking the house. I also have the 33.3 that came with that stereo that explained Stereo vs. high fidelity.

Yikes, indeed! I'll be there soon enough next month! BTW, his fiancee was the same Omarosa from Trump's "Apprentice" TV show? I'm guessing so, only because I can't imagine that there are too many people strolling the planet with that name ...

54 yikes is right. I hate it when I read the obituaries in the paper when I see age 50 something and died unexpectedly. That means you dropped dead.
