I guess it had to happen sooner or later, but did it really HAVE to happen.
WalMart is starting Black Friday at 10:00pm on Thursday, and a lot of its competitors felt the need to follow suit.
Seems that a lot of the poor schmucks that have to work there wont get to enjoy their Thanksgiving, instead they will be trying to get some shuteye so they can pull an all-nighter.
My sis-in-law works for Target, and she will be trying to nap instead of eating a holiday meal so she can start a midnight shift there.
I dont suppose this insanity will end until these places are open all day on Thanksgiving and no one gets a holiday.
ASSHOLES

. ....My sis-in-law works for Target, and she will be trying to nap instead of eating a holiday meal so she can start a midnight shift there...... What a sap! Why the fuck is she busting her hump working for the man? All she needs to do is Occupy Wall Street and let the government take care of her!! Then it's FREE money to do whatever she wants. ETA: sorry to be so snarky, but anyone who complains about their job, when 9+% of our countrymen are out of a work, is just plain wrong. You don't like it, quit, and let someone hungrier than you get your gig.

While watching TV tonight all the commercials are about Black Friday. We seen Kohl's, Target. who both open at Midnight and then Fucking Wally World that open at 10:00PM Thanksgiving night.
It's almost like Thanksgiving is in the way of Black Friday.

You can't blame the retailers. They don't put a gun to anyone's head to come and shop there. If people didn't want to shop those hours, the stores would quickly find out. But customers DO want to shop those hours, and the stores are happy to oblige.
If you want to "blame" anyone, blame the public who are hungry for deals. Not that they deserve any blame for exercising their rights to pursue a great deal when they can get it....

NO JAKE. I have not heard one individual begging to shop Thursday evening. This is not consumer driven it is corporate driven. Wally World etal have no reason to open early other than to beat the competition to the open door.
Maybe we should just ban holidays since closing stores seems to get in the way of business.
SCROOGE would have loved this.

I haven't heard anyone begging to shop on Thursday either, but the stores apparently think they want to. I predict one of two things will occur: The customers will flock to the stores and the trend will continue, or the customers will say away and the stores will drop this plan like a hot potato.
In other words, the market will decide. Which is of course as it should be.

Complaining about your job and recognizing mismanagement in a job you otherwise like are two different things. Again, pointing to the unemployment figure you quoted, you obviously can just up and quit. In this economy, you have to look for another job while you still have one. This has always been true, but more now than ever before, given the climate we've been in the last few years.

In which case my personal hope is that we will have a bunch of muzak echo chambers and a financial disaster of epic proportions... but that's not likely to happen.

Or it could be that everyone decided to wait until Cyber Monday.

Actually, I went out shopping on Michigan Avenue today. No crowds yet, but the decorations are all up. Really got me in a jingle-bell kind of spirit. Even toward YOU bastards!

No chance you'll ever find me shopping on Black Friday. I'd rather do anything than get caught up in the hassles, people volume and TRAFFIC.
