Horizontal bop gets the Stan Getz Bossanova Jazz treatment in my house. "Girl from Ipenema" gets me all in a tizzy.

My first concert was Kansas, then Styx, then John Denver. My favorite concert was Frank Sinatra. It was just before old blue eyes became retro enough to be popular with the kids again. Me and my best friend's boyfriend (she didn't want to go), and ten thousand little blue haired old ladies and men. Frank was really in form that night.
and no, i did not take sexual advantage of my "date" that evening.
for slow screwing i like roxy music "avalon" because its something i don't sing to (other than "more than this" but that is the first song on the album so its usually acceptable) i've been told there is nothing quite as mood altering (and not in a good way) as realizing your partner is singing to the stereo.
Zilla (who is also distracted by the television at times. Ask me sometime about the documentary on elephants that scarred me for life)

I saw that documentary, Zilla. The male elephant chasing down the female....trying not to let his dick drag in the dirt. The baby elephant was stillborn....... That was a huge cock....skered me too! editted to spell *male* instead of *mail*. Coffee didn't kick in until now....

Now imagine looking up for a bit of sexual playtime and seeing that. i mean the sheer size was frightening enough, but it moved almost like the trunk does! Yikes! Zilla (who is still in therapy over it)

I can't horizontal mambo to music, most songs are 2-3 minutes and that's way to long.

My very first concert was Jefferson Starship. I still like their music. I'm definitely a mood/music person too. This dancing baby grew up as a Motown fanatic. Beach Boys is summer happy music, and there's nothing like Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby at Christmas. The Doors, and Jethro Tull with his magic flue still mesmerize me. Musicals are wonderful too. Reggae is a give-in, and you know that Orthodox Jewish Reggae singer, Matsiyahu ain't so bad either! I can identify certain stages of my life with various types of music. Amazing how a song can catapult you back into time. You must of been a *Class of 69* graduate. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles was the first album I brought. psssst.... Amazing how this topic can catapult you back into time.

Renee, I didn't even think of Jethro Tull!!!! They are one of my all time favorites. I guess it's because I wanted to play the flute and had to take piano lessons instead!!!

Jethro Tull in concert was awesome....back in the early 70's. Yep...I wanted to play the flute too. Guess we have to settle for playing the *skin* flute instead?

Tex is right about the vocalist ... but the correct spelling is Astrud Gilberto. She used to be married to Joaõ Gilberto (another velvety-voiced Brazilian singer and song writer) who got her the gig on the Stan Getz recording of "Girl from Impanema". I saw her a few years back at SOB's here in NYC. She's still got it! But mainly she's spending her time these days fighting for animal rights. I guess she won't be adorning herself with peacock feathers anytime soon.

Sergio Mendez had that same Brazilian vibe. Ipanema was one of those songs you couldn't get out of your head.

Sergio Mendez had that same Brazilian vibe. As did Antonio Carlos ("Tom") Jobim. He recorded one excellent album with Sinatra around 40 years ago, then they teamed-up again for part of a 2nd one (the first one is still available on CD and I *highly* recommend it -- the 2nd one, unfortunately, is very hard to find ... after about eight years of looking, I finally got a copy as an import).

Music is mind therapy...and we have a very eclectic collection in this house...so mood definately determines what's being played.
When I'm workin' in the studio...it's anything Celtic, classical, Phish or Trey Anastasio. Being Irish I'm addicted to U2. But walk in our house or ride in our car on any given day and it'll be anything from Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffet, Marley, Pink Floyd, Shaggy, or Yes. to Usher, Black Eyed Peas, The Maytals, O.A.R. You name it...
We've both collected music for years and it's a big source of entertainment for us...and our music collection now takes up it's own external hardrive. IPOD's we don't leave home without 'em.

Know I'm late to this party (away all week on training) but I am a classic rock girl all the way........Zepplin (esp the first 3 albums), Supertramp, Genesis, Pink Floyd (never, ever get sick of Pink Floyd, their music is genius), ELP, Yes, Santana, Eagles (saw them in concert last year, 3 hours and I knew every single song), CSN&Y, Hendrix, Janis, Joni Mitchell, Clapton (his blues stuff is great boinking music), Joan Armatrading, Carly Simon, Simply Red, Sting (love his jazzier stuff), Melissa, early Elton John (Levon and Tiny Dancer are favs), The Who............some newer artists we like.............Amanda Marshall, Diana Krall (both Canadian), Joss Stone................................and I simply adore Barbra Striesand.........the greatest female pop vocalist ever, IMHO. I can watch Funny Girl over and over again (and I have) and still get chills when she belts out Don't Rain on my Parade!
The only music I can't stand is country, new or old. Just can't handle it.
